Tubesteak 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 Get up, take the power play, and score? It's mens league. I can almost guarantee you it wasn't intentional. This is a hypothetical. The assumption is that it was intentional.
Zombies #77 10 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 In the leagues that I play in, the guys that don't do it intentionally will typically say they are sorry. It's the people who go after myself or others throughout the whole game that I take exception to.
MyBoxersSayJoe 133 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 Yeah, if something happens accidentally, I'll ask the guy if he's okay, especially since all the dirty/cheap/weird/awkward stuff happens at the lower levels. With the shot from behind, let the guy take the penalty. I say that now, but I'm still buzzing over a similar situation from months ago. I've been hit from behind twice intentionally so far this season. Definitely no "sorry" or "are you okay?" in either instance.
tareatingrat 4 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 dirty/cheap/weird/awkward stuff happens at the lower levelsNot in my league. Accidental stuff, maybe, but rarely do you have people trying to kill each other.I find the mid-level hockey to be the worst. These are the guys who have been playing all their lives, but aren't that good. They try to make up for it by being "tough".
IPv6Freely 2094 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 If its the guy thats been hacking and slashing and has already taken a penalty for roughing that game... it's pretty hard to not do anything. Like I said earlier, the idea that you being a moron could cost me my health and my career pisses me off more than any slash to the ankles ever will.
krwwc6 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 I've got a guy on my team that isn't chippy, doesn't trash talk, but he is the better player on our team. This means he gets hacked and slashed constantly during the game because, in our league, if the other team is slower than ours, we end up getting slashed and hacked all game. Anyways, the skilled guy that gets hacked and slashed takes it all game. . . the only thing he doesn't put up with is when guys facewashes him and starts punching him when theirs some scum in front of the net. He wears a half shield while the other combatant is almost always wearing a full cage. It's amazing how quickly things de-escalate when he yells at them, throws his helmet on the ice, and drops his gloves. He's done it a few times this year, and every time, the other guy is stunned and stops trying to fight him and makes it look like the ref is holding him back. He hasn't been in a fight, nor has he "instigated" them. When guys slug him in the face after the whistle, he just thinks it's more fair if they both take of their helmets and gloves (which not one of the other guys has done yet)I do think nearly all of these instances could have been avoided had ref's called the small calls earlier in the game. Our team seldom hacks or slashes the other team. . . and when they do it to us we aren't yelling at the ref's to call stuff. . . . but it's amazing how when we finally do decide to slash someones stick . . . the other teams entire bench stands up and starts yelling for a penalty. I get it you're better than me, but when you go end to end deliberatly undressing all 5 of our skaters, because you can show off without getting hit, dont get mad when someone takes issue with it and puts you on your back! It just comes down to the whole escaltion factor.

Apes44 7 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 I think he meant his career as in his day job, not a hockey career.if thats the case then i am 100% in agreement! its the guys who actaully still have a shot that come in and score 10 goals a game showing off that i thought he was talking about! Sorry for my rant!

I'd rather pick up my teeth after getting jacked in the face than not be able to walk. He needs to be sent a message.
hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted March 14, 2012 The league I play in doesn't allow fighting. 1st offense is $25 and 1-game. 2nd offense is $50 and 3-games. 3rd offense is banned for life. Now I know of individuals who have come back after a season or two of "banned for life". Hockey isn't as popular here as it is in other states so the rinks need as many players as they can get usually. But, fighting in the leagues here isn't much of an issue. Maybe an occasional one, but mostly just shoving matches that escalate into 2-min or a 10-min misconduct if the guy mouths off. Fighting in adult/beer league is dumb. It doesn't serve a purpose. I think the only purpose 'intimidation' serves is to keep the cheap shot artist from doing his thing when everyone else is just there to play fun/competitive hockey. Unfortunately, most adult league refs won't call a tight game because they just don't care.

But again, only if it was intentional. Accidents happen, and even if I end up in a wheelchair.. hey, it's a rough sport, contact or not. Shit happens. But if some guy is getting chippy and being a general douche all game and then that happens? I'm not sure I really care about how stupid fighting in beer league is, at that point. And if some other guy is going to take liberties that put you (or a teammate) in unnecessary danger....that's a time and place to stand up. Especially, if the ref isn't going to handle the situation. IniNew 53 Report post Posted March 16, 2012 If anyone would like to watch a great monologue on escalation and what it means for an individual here is a great Ted Talk. stock07 1 Report post Posted March 17, 2012 I am so glad I get to finally enjoy the 30+ beer league. I can not think of a single "incident" that lead to more than a chuckle ever. From my experience I have noticed 2 types of players that seem more prone to trash talking/fighting/etc in the adult beer leagues....1.Like others mentioned, bad players with Stanley Cup Visions... 2.The 18 yr. old "superstar" that was great in minor hockey but suddenly is only good enough to be "ok" in the adult league.( On a side note, the only serious fight I have ever seen in a beer league came between a 40 something guy and 18-20 something kid on the same team, on the bench!) The kid thought he was to good to be playing with "guys who couldn't keep up" and was yelling it to his friends on the other team he got like a laugh and a half out before the 40 yr. old guy laid into him!
