Looking for a new stick....

Recommended Posts

Ok. Im a defensemen, and I want a stick with a curve, lie etc that can get me a hard, fast, low shot and thats extremely durable and has a grip. If anyone can give me any tips on what to choose please reply. I was looking at the Bauer XX.

for the sake of not feeling like telling you its really personal preference, go buy an easton grip shaft, and then put an easton wood modano blade into it, if you like that curve upgrade to graphite

Lie is not PP, it is finding the one that fits you. I can use any type of curve I want, I prefer a heel curve. I can't use any lie I want, only a 5-ish lie will allow me the best performance. You can tell what lie is best for you by the way the tape wears on your blade.

If you want something duarble, don't bother with any OPS. No stick will give you a low, hard shot. It's something you have to develop on your own through work.

wouldn't flex factor into this? all the guys i know on my team who have whippy sticks can't seem to keep their shot down at all. i'm not saying, go out and find the stiffest stick but it depends on how strong/how heavy you are

I find a stiffer stick does help keep my shot down but it also robs me of some velocity.

Can you explain more for me please? The tape ont he bottom of my R+ wears of every game with wax on it, should I be using a different lie to stop this?

Is the wear concentrated at the heel, toe or evenly across the bottom? I wear through my tape in one game most of the time but it is even across the bottom so the lie is correct. If the lie is too high it will wear at the heel, too low and it will wear at the toe.

On wrist shots or slappers? I always thought stiffer sticks help and increase velocity on slappers but rob you on wrist shots and vice versa.

My slappers are much slower than with the R flex. It may be partly due to the fact I'm so used to that flex my motion is most suited to it.

Flex is just a way of storing energy in the stick. If you are lighter then it is improbable that you will be able to flex a stiff stick enough to store the maximum energy you can develop. By using your weight in addition to your forearm strength to "preload" a stick through proper technique you can develop a harder shot by increasing the stored energy in the stick with less strength involved. A stiffer stick will "release" more quickly, but not necessarily develop more power or velocity.

Wood blade and graphite blade are not always the same curve. Look at the graphite sakic retail and the wood sakic retail, they are different.

Chadd... Iif you divide the blade into three sections, its proably 2/3 of the heel section.

Since your wear is 2/3 of the heel section, that means your lie is too high. What lie are you using right now?

Or the rocker of the blade as well. 2/3rds of the blade isn't bad.

I agree. Shooting with a slightly high lie is fine, but the other way around and I can't do sh!t with them.

That's not too bad, I've seen much worse. It could be the rocker as much as the overall lie. What blade are you using right now?
