Similar instep depth to Graf 709

Recommended Posts

Are there any skates in the market that have similar instep depth to the 709's? I have a very high arch with a lot of volume which caused me to move to the 709's, but I would prefer a skate with a bit more stiffness and more supportive in the ankle. I am a big guy 6'8" 250lbs and the 709's are a bit more flexible than I would like. My LHS has very limited selection of skates, so any feedback would be helpful.

The Supreme line does have a fairly deep instep depth, look at the Easton EQ line as well. I've had a few high-volume feet fit into EQ's better than Supreme's.

Also, the Graf G70 is the same boot shape as the 709, but is lighter and stiffer. I think it's no longer in production, but can still be found. The new G75 is quite stiff, and has the same instep depth as the 709/G70, but the heel width is not quite as wide.

The only other skate I've seen that is as deep and wide is the Kor shift 2. Unfortunately they are almost impossible to find and don't fit to the same sizes.

I've tried on 2 diffent pairs of G70s......those were not as deep as the 709 (but a bit deeper than my Total Ones).

I wish I could find another boot that was as deep as the 709.....but not quite so f-ugly. :)

I finally broke down and got custom Bauer's. My feet were too different and I couldn't find a skate that would work on both feet. Hopefully they can get the depth issue resolved.

I'd like to do that......

....but I'm having trouble finding a fitter (within reasonable driving distance) that has any practical experience with the Bauer custom program.

I didn't find the G75 very supportive in the ankle. Yes, there was good ankle lock, but the cut of the boot didn't provide me much support.
