Quickly breaking in new gloves?

Recommended Posts

Just got a pair of new Warrior gloves, never used Warrior gloves but they were issued to our team and they are stiffer than any other glove I have ever had. Any idea on how to quickly break them in?

I would think the only way to break them them in quickly is through playing. I know some guys I play with will pull the fingers back and tape the fingers down to help loosen them up. Others simply wear them ass much as possible and keep working them.

That said, I too have a pair of Warrior's (Franchise) that I recently purchased and I agree, they seem to be stiffer than most gloves out there. Although they feel stiff, I keep wearing them and figure they will loosen up soon. Good Luck!

throw them in a skate over for 5-10 minutes

I believe Chadd was referring to a "skate oven"?

This too should work.

Where them as much as possible. I can remember getting a pair of CCM team issued gloves and hating the feel... ended up keeping them

on when I went to bed and wore them around the house at all times. A few good practices with all of that will help the situation.

Wow that's a new one...

Nope, in fact Hespeler had gloves that were designed to be baked ten years ago. Most of the guys I knew back then were tossing gloves into skate ovens to break them in back then.

Don't be surprised if we see this method of breaking gear in make a comeback. Apparently, CCM's new line of protective gear is supposed to have some sort of heat mold system. We'll see.

Huh. Interesting...

Might be something I'll try on these new 4-rolls. They need it...

I'm not sure what the temperature tolerances are for EPP. That may not be a good idea.

I think the U Foam in the protective is of a different formula than the skates; what they're designed to do is different. Bit OT but I don't see a point in heat mouldable protective, your joints (esp knees) move and change shape so much when flexing that it renders a form-fitted mold useless.

I will get a heat gun and would aim inside inside the gloves about 2 feet away for about 15 seconds once every 5 min a few times. Then I wear them for a few days while watching movies on the couch. Doesn't apply to all gloves of course

I baked my V12 shins and shoulders. On the shins the moldable component was the calf wrap and on the shoulders the bicep guards detached for molding. Heating both helped them wrap closer to my body and I consider that option to be a good feature.

I found my Eagles gloves felt like they were already broken in or broke in very quickly.

Wear them everywhere you can. Manipulate your fingers and wrist as much as you can as this will wear down the stiffness. You'll look weird doing it but the other option is to just wear them when you're playing.

I have always taped the fingers back..... Then put them under my car and back the tires on to them over night ---- broken great in the morning

Are you serious? I would never do that to my gloves!! Or probably to any of my equipment for that matter. Unless you're getting free gloves or something

I found that totally saturating gloves in warm water then working all the joints before they dry helps a lot. also leave them in a hot shower, steam helps too.
