What are some preferred curves for defensemen ?

Recommended Posts

Been using the P88 (then Lindros) curve since I was younger. If I switched to anything, it'd probably be Bauer's PM9. Defense should probably use something that promotes a low shot from the point.

It is all personal preference. I have seen pro stock sticks anywhere from straight to toe curves. I know Brent Burns on the Sharks and Rafalski use toe curves. Other guys like Aaron Ward are basically straight sticks. I think it depends on your technique more than anything. Do you want the ability to pull a puck off the boards with ease on the back hand that comes with a wedge? Or do you want the ability to reach out and pull the back back to you that comes with a toe curve? I struggle keeping hard slap shots down with a wedge, so I am now using a big toe hook. I mean it really depends on what You want. But in general PM9, P106, P91a, P02 are the standards.

well been using a sakic since the first time I started hockey 5 years ago as a defenceman. The only thing that sometimes bother me is when i jump up on the play and do wristers.. seems a little harder too pick the top corners. While I also have a ccm stick(not sure what cuve, it says number 19) which is a bit more open. I am liking it right now.. just need to find the easton equivalant.

I've tried just about every curve out there, and I keep going back to Sakic/P92--especially for defense. I prioritize my stick-handling ability so that I can always maintain confident control over the puck when I have it; for me, the mid-toe pocket on the Sakic is far more comfortable to stick-handle with than any of the heel curves.
