Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 6, 2012 I understand where they're coming from, but I still think most of them, if not all, would be better off just moving on into whatever their actual careers are going to be and playing some beer league hockeyOr, as it used to be called, growing up and acting like an adult. Vinny_R 1 Report post Posted April 6, 2012 My cousin is playing in the LNAH and it's decent hockey if you take apart the staged fights between goons. He stills plays in this league because he enjoys hockey and he is at school (he old to be in school but he went in the US to play in the ECHL after his Juniors years). It's probably the best part-time/student job you can have!Oh! and Pierre Dagenais is playing in the FHL with Akwesasne... big drop for a former NHL player... BarDownGinos 3 Report post Posted April 6, 2012 pretty sure everyone in this thread would love to play professional hockey, however bad the league isYes, everyone in this thread would like to play pro hockey, but this isn't really pro hockey. The difference between between "Single A" professional hockey and "Senior A" adult hockey, is $200 a week, maybe. I'm sure most Senior A or AAA teams in Western Canada would embrass these FHL teams, as would a lot of the Senior A teams in Michigan/Minnesota. To go through 57 guys in a season like the Cape Cod team has is just a joke. There were not a lot of 3-4 game rostered guys, they were playing 20 plus games and then leaving. That's turning over your roster 3 complete times in one season.

shooter27 116 Report post Posted April 6, 2012 $200 a week isn't exactly much to live on, and its not like these guys have the time to take on another job. When I was asked to play after college I would have considered it if I could have managed to work my day job and play at the same time. But they practice every day in the middle of the day (at least the team I spoke to did) and have community appearances to make pretty regularly (I think they did an episode about going to a hospital). A little free gear and a crowd to play in front of don't put food on the table or pay the rent.As for the quality of play, I think the statements in this thread are pretty accurate in comparing it to Senior A hockey. There are probably a couple of high-end beer leagues in certain parts of North America that are equivalent levels of play too.

I'd take that over the FHL any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted April 9, 2012 This team is in the next rink over from the pro shop I work in. I know some guys who have played in the league. When teams are going through so many players, a lot of the guys never got paid. And no one here is exaggerating.
