icewalker_bg 126 Report post Posted March 30, 2012 English not being my mother tongue I am having a lot of trouble with some of the terms used to describe hockey stick stick feel. I am reading here some expressions such as pingy, lively, ceramic, dead, numb and the list goes on and on. I know what a good stick fells like, but can't explain it because i'm lacking the understanding of these terms. Can someone explain these terms and maybe give an example of a stick. I'm sure this will help other members too. Thanks
ibeck 38 Report post Posted March 30, 2012 Pingy=when you receive a pass and the puck keeps bouncing off the bladeLively= Stick has lots of pop/kick, shoots well
Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 30, 2012 I've used ceramic mostly because the feel of those sticks reminded me of a coffee mug. Hard, brittle and not a good feel overall.
stick9 905 Report post Posted March 30, 2012 Dead = no pop, no kick...feels like it's at the end of it's life.Numb = no transfer or feedback from the players hands to the ice or puck.

Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2012 Love the title of this thread. It's like when a Euro chirps you on the ice. He'll follow it with something both crass but strangely awesome."Hey, enlighten me! What does your mother say when she comes back from a hard day of blowing commie dockworkers? Hat trick coming up, and my stick is DAMP!"
splitbtw 2 Report post Posted March 31, 2012 I actually take ceramic to mean a good thing. For instance, if a blade feels 'pingy' like an X60 blade, a one95 would be more 'ceramic.' Pingy to me is as described above where the puck doesn't stick so much when receiving passes. 'Ceramic' to me is where the puck doesn't spring off and sticks a bit more.Dead and numb are when the blade doesn't have much feel to it and lively, as above, is when the puck jumps off the stick. Though, depending how you look at it, pingy and lively can mean the same thing regarding the blade.Love the title of this thread. It's like when a Euro chirps you on the ice. He'll follow it with something both crass but strangely awesome."Hey, enlighten me! What does your mother say when she comes back from a hard day of blowing commie dockworkers? Hat trick coming up, and my stick is DAMP!"Damping would be another turn in regards to puck feel that I associate with ceramic and associate with better feel. Some say it's like a wood stick feel but I haven't used a wood stick since roller and that is before my analysis time.

JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted April 1, 2012 I used the term "ceramic" after using an XN10 for the first time; tap a coffee cup with something and that feel and sound is my definition of ceramic. No way that's a good feel.
