Higher education, social status, religion, etc. have no bearing on racism. I have met many well educated, rich people who are scum and many "poor", high school drop outs who are the salt of the earth. To think that just because someone has a better eduation is completely narrow minded.

Yeah, of Fred Phelps 14 children (Of Westboro baptist church) 12 of them are lawyers. Incredibly smart and educated people, and it hasn't slowed their bigotry a bit.

Caps fans were just as quick to jump on Joel Ward after his unfortunate late game penalty.

Religious zealotry is another story entirely, let's not get into that.

I hope you are not referring to me as a troll. I've been a member for a long time and with over thousand posts I think I'm definitely not a troll.

A statement was made regarding religion and racism. I asked a simple question for an simple answer. Instead of people getting upset why not post an intelligent reply. I am very curious about the statement.

My statement was not about "religion and racism", but "Christianity", specifically, and racism.

OK, I thought you were trolling, since the answer seems obvious to me. I can't reconcile "Love thy neighbor" and the Golden Rule with hating people. As I recall, the Good Samaritan story had the ancillary lesson of showing a member of a group subject to racial discrimination as the only good person to show up, to pick just one example from teachings attributed to Christ.

The answer wasn't obvious to me, that is why I asked. Religion (including Christianity) has created some of the most bigotted people in history. Hating a culture, race or class of people because they are different or have different beliefs is wrong. The Inquisition, Crusades, Final Solution, etc, etc, etc show that.

Nifty sayings like Love thy Neighbor and The Golden Rule should have nothing to do with religion. They are they way mankind should be towards each other. People need to accept people for who they are, regardless of color, gender sexual preference, religion and everything else that makes people different.

It's obvious that Jesus didn't teach discrimination.

And rules or guidelines (not "nifty sayings", but bases for philosophies) for how to treat your fellow man are certainly within the purview of religion.

That's twice you've tried to expand this beyond the scope of Christianity, rather than discussing my original comment, which you purported to be questioning here. I've answered your question, and don't wish to take this thread off track any further.

Any TRUE Christian can't and won't be racist. As mentioned, it's not what is taught and expected. Now there are people who claim they are 'Christians' yet don't follow the Bible and it's guidelines. 'Love They Neighbor' isn't some nifty saying, it is suppose to be a way of life.

Guys, this is way off topic. I enjoy debates on religion away from here, but this is a hockey site and in the NHL forum. This is not an appropriate place for this debate and nobody ever changes their mind about religion based on an online debate. Let's focus on the things that bring us together and not the things that push us apart.
