New CCM protection

Recommended Posts

The only thing disappointing to me able the u12s after trying them on is the lack of inner thigh protection, the fit07 which I think was their previous model equivalent but I could be wrong, had this. I know it's just a little flap but I block a lot of passes and they come in handy. I gotta jump to higher end cs ot cl to get it. They are rediculously light however, even though the ccm rep at the store told me the cl and cs pants were lighter, I think that's false

I'm as picky as they get and I have to say the U+ CL is the best feeling equipment I've ever tried. I've been through a lot of gear and nothing compares for me. As a matter of fact i'll even go as far as saying I've been anti-CCM in the past and this stuff impressed the hell out of me. The fit, the weight, the protection all there for me. Bought the shoulders and elbows right after trying them on. Can't comment on the shins.

I recently got the U+12 pants and wore them for the first time yesterday and they felt pretty good. I am coming from the U+09 and the U12s are a lot lighter but do seem as though they provide a little less protection. When I went to the LHS I was intending to pick up a pair of 7Ks, but I picked these up off the shelf and I could not believe how light they were. It is the first time I took pants of the rack and was taken aback by the weight. I suspected they would be crazy expensive, but they were only $90 US so I was sold. As far as the weight compared to the CL pants goes Total Hockey's website has the U12s listed as a couple grams lighter.

Oh yeah and another thing to note is that CCM seems to have figured out to put abdominal protection on these pants without having it stick out and flop forward. It flopped over so much on my U09s that I have to tuck it in. The protection pad is much shorter on these so it does not flop out.

yeah, i hate that front flop, its much better on the new pads for sure, in terms of trying it on in store.

Yes, the U+ CL line is impresive. I recently grabbed new elbow pads and I was very close to getting the U+ CLs, but felt the new Projekts were a bit more comfortable on me and that's probably because I'm used to the flared bicep protectors on the older Projekts I used previously. With that said, the CCM U+ CL elbows were a very close second and felt better than a lot of the other pads I tried on.

I was also very impressed with the shins. They felt light, tapered nicely and were quite comfortable. I'm fine with my current shins for now, but the shins would definitely get serious consideration if I were in the market.

I wanted to note that it is lower on the U12s but I'm not sure about the CLs and in fact when looking at the pics of the CLs the abdominal pad still looks like it goes up pretty high. Could just be the pics though.

when i had it on, it seemed very reasonable. i tried on both the 12 and CL. It was a decent height up, but didnt not feel very flappy, just a little at the top segment. I hadnt moved around much in them however.

Hey guys, dumb question here... was wondering of any of you wearing the new pant can comment... put them on, they felt ok (stiff like you said and will hopefully break in)... however I felt as if I were wearing a diaper (thats the best way to describe it)... the foam part in the butt just seemed to sit all weird. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, the foam around the butt is fairly bulky and does feel like you have a load in your pants. That should flatten out a bit and break in with the rest as you wear them, but if yoiu do not need all that padding in the rear, you may want to check out the CS or even the U+12. The 12 especially I find to be a good bargain of a pant, most of the padding of the CL without going overboard though (great for adult/recreational leagues) and since it has slightly less padding about the same weight as well. Good pant for the money.

I tried on the CL, CS and 12 today and by far the CL felt the most comfortable in the legs/waist. The foam in the butt/tailbone area on both the CL and CS turned me off of both of them though. Just in the few minutes wearing them in the store I found it just rubbed too much on my thighs. The 12 wasn't as bad and that's probably because the foam there doesn't feel as stiff as the other two.

I'm waiting to try on the new Warrior Projekt pants and others before I commit to new pants.

can anyone comment in more detail about the shin pads?

specifically i'm hoping to hear more about the ufoam in the calf protection. I tend to block shots with the side of my leg (think knee drop) so it hits the soft sides more often than my the hard shell front. If you can compare it other shins and what kind of padding they use would be really helpful.

Would you mind telling me how tall you are? I'm just over 5'10" with a slight build and I felt like I was swimming in the mediums. The tag on the inside of them says they are designed for people in the 5'5"-5'11" range. I really like the pad but the smalls come up about an inch shorter in the forearm which is really unfortunate for me because they would leave a decent gap between my gloves

I'm 6' and around 185 lbs. The medium elbows fit me very well, but I was swimming in the larges. If you were swimming in the mediums, give the smalls a go and see if they fit properly. I always more or less ignore the height/weight suggestions for protective gear, and just focus on how they actually fit me.

I was very disappointed that the 13" shin guards are considered Junior, so they do not have the U foam. CCM just lost a sale.

Kovi,

You might check out the 14's because my experience with my son and CCM Shins is that they seem to run a bit short so there is a real possibility that the 14's might work for you. His 13" U+09's (he is under 5') are about 1 1/2" shorter than the 13' Bauers that my daughter wears.

ID, thanks a lot for the information. Very good to know! Do you find them a lot bulkier though? That is what has swayed me away from 14" shins in the past. Once you hit that 14" mark, the shin pad balloons in width/girth.

I really didn't look that close since the 13's worked for my son. Although it seems from memory that they were not near as wide as the comperable Eastons or Reebok's I considered.
