Nexus/One95 flex question

Recommended Posts

I know the Nexus was just released, but I know people have been using the G3 flex profile, which is similar to the flex profile of the Nexus. Can anyone compare the retail One95 flex profile to the G3? I did not care for the One95 flex profile as it felt way to soft/noodle like. Will I not like the Nexus because of this? From what I read, it is soft in the handle and down low, but stiff in the middle. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I've used all three, and in my opinion, because of the different flex profiles: a Nexus of equivalent flex rating will play softer than a Supreme, which will play softer than a Vapor.

So if you couldn't find a Supreme/TotalOne that was stiff enough, I wouldn't expect a Nexus to play/feel any stiffer.

I found the Total One to play a tad stiff, unlike the One95 which felt a lot softer. Can you compare it

To the two individually?

The Nexus definitely feels softer then the One95 and TotalOne. I was able to shoot with the Nexus and a TotalOne in warmups before a rec league game. The Nexus totally felt softer than the TotalOne. Which, is more to my liking as I don't have a lot of upper body weight to load a stick with. I think this is more due to the flex profile of the stick than anything else. The Nexus seemed to load/flex great no matter where my lower hand was. It was very cool. Both sticks were the the same flex rating and length. I really liked shooting with the Nexus, but if you prefer a stiffer feel it may not be to your liking. The stick(s) I shot were 87flex w/ a 1" or so cut down.

I ended up getting a Nexus 600, and it plays softer than my totalone's and my APX. I love the way it shoots it really fits my nitch. So i would assume that the 1000 would also play softer.

How does gameplay feel? My wallet is more in tune with the Nexus 600. It definitely felt more blade heavy than the 1000, but that's to be expected. And it didn't even seem that bad. Flexing them in the pro shop they seemed to feel almost identical in that regard. But that's just messing around in the shop and not actually playing so who knows.

I Skated with it this morning at stick and puck with a little two on two messing around. I felt like no matter where i had my hands the thing just was zipping them around. I've used totalones a lot more than my apx which was short lived and tbh the weight didnt bug me one bit. It's really balanced for the price. I have to usually cut my sticks down about 3 or so inches now and it still feels like it plays softer. The only thing that I had to get used to was just maybe it's me the shaft itself felt bulkier, material being used is probably what did it.

What flex do you have your Nexus 600 in? I've been playing with 85flex sticks that are cut down, so closer to 90. Lately, I've been wanting to go with a 75flex stick so that after it's cut it's closer to 80. Have you found that the stick plays like a flex rating lower than it's actually rated at? Just due to the flex profile. I don't want to buy one in a 75 and find I should have bought it in a 85-flex because of this. I'm basically trying to end up with a stick that is around the 75/77/80-flex rating/feel. Thanks.

I got mine in the 77. cut mine down to like halfway between the 84/92 flex mark. Feels still closer to an 80-84 flex. Probably like you said due to the flex profile. I might try to cut it down more to see how it played.

Interesting, sounds like it's very easy to load. I personally find a 77 flex X60 to be just right for me stiffness wise, but my 77 flex totalone is a bit too whippy (it's a shaft/blade, if that makes any difference). I wonder if I should go with an 87 with a Nexus. Has anyone out there used both a 77 flex Vapor (like an X60, X50, Apx, etc.) and an 87 flex Nexus 1000? If so, which one feel whippier/easier to load in-game?

That sounds kind of like what I'm looking for. An uncut 77flex for the Nexus would be too noodle-like for what I want, but it sounds like cut down it would feel/play the way I like. Time to go play around a little more at my LHS before my next game. Thanks for the info.

if you think the totalone was whippy, i honestly doubt you'll like the nexus.

What is the shaft shape like on the nexus? Is it as thick and as square as the Mako or ST?

Straight walls pretty traditional. Kinda like the st but a bit smaller feeling? I reall like it

Has anyone else that has bought a Nexus like to comment on what they think of it? I am on the fence between a Nexus or a Total One.

in my opinion the nexus feels a lot better than a totalone. very well balanced. nexus isnt blade heavy at all.

Well, I would likely go up a flex rating (from 77 to 87), but it does sounds like I might be better off sticking with a 77 flex Vapor, which I know works well for me.

Looking at a nexus and having trouble decieding on which flex to get. I don't take many slap shots, mostly wrist and snap shots. I gather that it plays a little softer than the total one. I am use to using an eq50 85 flex any info on how it compares to the EQ?

The Nexus does play whippier than X60 of the same flex. If you're moving from a Vapor to Nexus, you'll notice the shaft feels thicker and the squarer corners feel initially awkward. However, you'll get used to of the shape, and you'll likely feel that you can flex the stick (ie. load it) quicker. I also like the more forgiving blade, as puck handling feels much better than the Vapor (which is more "pingy").
