Blade and Shaft Problem

Recommended Posts

I just got myself a snazzy new Novius shaft and gotta say its the sweetest thing I've played with ever. But like my Ignite P1 before hand the head keeps coming lose in the bloody shaft! It doesn't fall out completely just is lose and you can rock the head up and down shaft wise. I have to keep re heating the head and am scared this will kill the lifespan of the new shaft.

What can I do to stop this problem from happening? And does it have anything to do with the way I put the head in with the shaft pointing vertical?

EDIT - I needed to change the title. It just sounded wrong...

Do you mean that the blade is coming loose in the shaft? If so, take a strip of tape and put it over the head of the blade, then put it in the shaft. That should make it fit more snug.

Its not coming lose as in falling out. Its still in the shaft just wobbling abit inside up and down. Its annoying as I know Im losing a smidge of power from it and also risking a head breakidge.

Do you put the tape on the part of the hosel that you insert into he shaft?

Put the tape where it needs it. Put it in and wiggle the stick. If it wobbles top to bottom, put a strip on one of the top/thin sides. If it wobbles side to side, do it on the side of the tenon.

Okay.....what sort of tape?....and what sort of glue? I was at the Hardware store yesterday and looking for the type of glue that they sell for hockey sticks. All I could find was that hot glue gun glue (lol). Is that stuff reheatable? That is can you heat it up once again once its set the first time?

If I tape up the part I insert do I use glue as well on top of the tape? Sorry If I sound like a dumbass with all these questions.

This might be obvious but there have been alot of people who have incorrectly placed the tape on the tenon. You want 1 peice of tape for the whole process. Start on one side at the 'bottom' of the tenon (the part closest to the blade). Work your way up to the top of the tenon (closest part that goes into shaft) and OVER to the other side and back down. The tape going over the top is the key as any other way will make the tape shift around as you're putting it into the shaft.

Yeah, that's the key. I used to have a bad habbit of knocking all of my blades loose, but I haven't really had a problem since I started using the single piece of tape all the way around. I do it for every blade without checking. I've never had a blade that fit snug without it, so I never bother checking anymore.

You're in Canada right? Just go to Canadian Tire. You can get a pack of 6 for a couple of bucks. If you want to go full out, get a matching glue gun and a heat gun. I just use the glue sticks and my stove and it seems to work fine (just keep the heat to medium/low). Remember to get the clear stuff and not the brownish kind unless you want a one-piece.
