Warrior widow and reebok ai9

Recommended Posts

So I've been using the widow in games and for the most part at stick and shoots.

I still take a few shots here and there with the reebok during stick and shoot. There is something about the way the widow feels that is just right. The weight is awesome the balances awesome sick handling is great Wrist shots are great snapshots are great.

The one thing I can do the hell of a lot better with the Reebok though is get a pretty awesome slap shot, awesome for me at least.

Both are 75 flex. P88 type curve. The widow is about 1 inch longer than the ai9.

A lot of people say that Reeboks play stiffer than their rating compared to other sticks. So do you think if I went up to an 85 flex in the widow it may help my slapshot with it?

Most of the time increasing the flex will help out with you'r slapshot, but your other shots will be slightly worse. Other possible causes for the better slapper with the RBK could be the kickpoint. Some people get a better slapper off with a mid-kick stick, which your Ai9 is, whereas the Widow is a low kick. Just some food for thought.

I love my widow for wrist shots but have to change my slapper motion when I use it. I choke down and work on making a smooth stroke. You can't power through a shot with a widow, you have to let it do the work.

Exactly what Chadd said.

The super low kick point on the Widow will affect your slap shot if you're not used to that much kick down low. You will have to adjust your hand position or even how you load the stick. The stick loads extremely quickly, so it can do much of the work for you with little effort.

Another key point is the Diablo/DT2 option of HiFused...we have found stronger players who take more slap shots like the feel more vs. the Widow/DT1 since the higher fuse keeps the stick very stable, but still kicks down low.

food for thought.

a lot of people like to go up a flex with the widow because it loads so easily. I won't say its whippy but its definitely the easiest to load 85 flex stick i've ever used (polar opposites of the dolomite/dynasty).

slap shots took me a while to get back too. it required a slightly different swing. just about the same after that.

what about for snap shots? is a mid or low kick typically better for those? what about flex for snap shots? lower or higher?

i am sticking with the widow for the most part. every now and again i shoot around with the reebok. both are great. i actually think i get better shots with the reebok, but it feels a bit heavier than the widow and i like the widow better in games.

are these similar kick points to s19? (diablo)

you are absolutely right. You have to let the widow do the work, find the perfect way to load it. The reeebok i find is way more difficult to load, but when loaded properly the puck def comes off hard. I've owned both sticks; the widow se and the ai9 both in 85 flex kovulchuk and Hedman curve which is kind of similar to a p88 with a square toe.The Hedman also is a higher lie. And now i have a 20k which i find too stiff @ 85 and alsohard to load. The widow is just something else. The thinner shaft dimensions and the feel and balance of it rates it as my all time favourite. Just wish it was more durable. I wish I could try a 75flex 20k...
