So A Rat Ate My Gloves

Recommended Posts

Had my gloves up about 3 feet off the ground in the garage on a drying rack with the rest of my gear. A rat climbed up it and ate just the palms of my gloves. I'm not an expert on rodents but I guess it was going after the salt from the sweat off my hands that would be on the palms? Or it just really like Warrior leather. Either way, I tried posting them on twitter and letting Warrior know but no reply. Oh well, had to ship them off to get them repalmed which sucks since I can't really break down and spend on some new ones. FYI, they were Warrior Franchise in 13" Narrow.

Pics below, I hope I adhered to the posting guidelines and didn't screw this up.

I think I'm still waiting for a punchline here haha.

Be wary of the repalming job however, as there is a possibility that they'll come back with shorter (height) gussets since those were chewed away as well. This should change how the glove fits and it might make the fingers tighter. I hope you still have the chance to specify how much gusset you want.

Not that I've ever seen or heard of rodents chewing up the leather palms of hockey gloves but this doesn't surprise me given what some of my female roommates reported having mice eat through in our craphole Allston apartment off campus a long time ago. Stupid mice were everywhere. A year or two later the mayor had the place condemned.

Maybe they were eating the leather, but maybe they liked the material to put in their nest.

Sorry to hear about this BTW. Get that rodent problem fixed pronto.

No it's not a joke. It's just one rat but, where there's one...

Set out some traps to get the bastard. Never had a rat around here before so going to be pretty zealous in finding it and getting rid of it. Now just need to wait a couple weeks for the gloves to be repalmed and sent back to me.

I hope the rat doesn't chew up my backup pair. Then I'd be in real deep.

I would highly suggest trashing the gloves and getting new ones. Rats carry all sorts of fun diseases. It's in their urine and feces, which, inevitably, was/is in your gloves. If you simply can't afford to replace them, your other option is to run them in a Sani Sport machine.

On a side note, welcome to the club. I had rats chew through the palms of three pairs of gloves, including my beloved custom TPS HGT with digital palms, and a relatively new pair of TPS R8 gloves. To me, it was well worth the additional cost of replacement versus new palms, strictly from a safety standpoint.

EDIT: I would strongly suggest an inspection of your garage. Close all the holes you can find FIRST, then start setting traps. Remember, a rat only needs a hole the size of a nickel to get in. Spray foam with wire mesh backing is your safest bet.

It happened again. I had traps set up around the rack like it was a scene out of Saw and the little bastard still got to them. I'm going to stalk over it now like Predator waiting for the little douche bag to show himself.

I was going to suggest this yesterday.

These definitely need to be cleaned well before you put your hands in them again. You might want to notify the folks that will be repalming these that they could be "contaminated" so to speak since they will be handling the gloves before this can take place now.

Wow.....I had no idea rats would eat at gloves/gear like that! I just bought my first house and have my gear laying out in the garage. Definitely going to make sure all holes are sealed up so I don't potentially run into this. That sucks.
