Looking For Opinions On Girdles

Recommended Posts

I recommend the lowers from a two-piece pant. They just fit better, and doesn't look like a potato sack.

JR - what do you do with the thigh pads that come in the lowers of a 2-piece pant? I tried using the lowers as a shell once before and found that the thigh pad on top of the girdle thigh pad made it too bulky and uncomfortable.

As for opinions about the girdle, I've worn the Bauer (MBP/old Vapor/new Supreme) for about 12 years, including 4 years of college hockey, and I've never found it lacking protection. I'm in the market for a new one right now because mine is worn out and I really the like Easton, but I'd like to hold out long enough to see the NXG in person before I pull the trigger on something.

The NXG is very intriguing, but that comes out next year.

Is the NXG a wrap around design like the T1? It looks like Bauer and some other brands have all moved to the wrap around design, I think I'd prefer the standard 'pant' girdle unless i can get the same fit with the 'newer' design. Are theT1 and NXG lighter than the MBP?

Not trying to be a tool, but try the search, there is a wealth of information on this board about girdles in multiple threads. This question or a variation comes up at least once a year. If you don't find and read those threads you're selling yourself short, I know I've posted in

5-10 of them. So my reply here will be short.

I love the increased mobility and fit of a girdle. I play in a fairly competitive and physical C+/B- no check/but not no contact league.

I've been wearing a girdle since the early 80s, started with the higher end Cooperall in Bantam. I tried pants again for a couple of games a few years ago, went right back to a girdle.

I am now using the Bauer MBP8, same cut as the Cooperall but in a wrap style. I like putting them on after I tie my skates.

My son uses the X60 girdle.

It's pretty simple; use a lower instead of a "girdle shell" or just take a pair of pants, cut out the hip pads (or also remove the thigh pads) and now you have a pant that has kidney protection and nothing below the waist.

I've used both wrap & non-wrap girdles. I currently use a wrap. Like I mentioned earlier my favorite feature about the wrap style is the ability to put them on after tying your skates. The wrap style also offers a little more flexibility in the fit. My sons X60 does offer more protection than your typical wrap style girdle.

Yeah, the standard girdles were a bit restrictive in the crotch; pros were cutting that part altogether.

I put my shell on first after doing my shins/socks, then put skates on. Drop shell and put girdle on.

Has anyone noticed that the Warrior girdle being extremely short in the legs? I tried one on today (XL) and it wasa good 2" or so shorter in the legs than my Bauer or the Easton (both XLs) I tried on. For a second I was wondering if maybe it was mislabeled, but the waist fit the same as the others.

By waist size I'm a large, but because of my height I have to wear an XL. I'm wondering if maybe that has something to do with it.

I just got my 9K girdle and I really like it even after only game. Only complaint is that they run small, I always bought mediums, but wish I would have bought a large, it's just a tad snug. I really like it for the back protection, it offers more than any I've ever seen. I spend a lot of time in front of the net, so I take a lot of shots to the back, I was wearing a running back tailbone bad sewed onto my shoulders, but the 9K eliminates the need for that. You will pay for one, but worth it.

Some pants, they slide right out, some you may have to cut them out.

I've tried on a few different girdles but have only played in two: x60 and 9k. The 9k is much more protective than the x60 and the hip protection is great. I hope it lasts a while and something similar comes along by the time I have to replace it.

Holy crap I just tried on a totalone girdle. They weigh NOTHING!

Great for mens league!

I may be on the market for a new Girdle as the fabric on my Supreme girdle is starting to develop holes.

JR, I am really intrigued by that little blurb on the Nexus girdle. Is it in Bauers new catalog?

Tried every girdle on the market and the best I found is the 9K with second place going to the Tackla. Even then - I still prefer the protection of pants but if the gaps and "airiness" in the girdle are what you like then to me the 9K was the best. Then again... always personal preference. :)

I picked up an Easton girdle today (couldn't wait for the new bauer any longer) and I want to shave down the hip pads a little bit. Has anyone done this? If so, what tool would you suggest I use to shave down the padding?

retarted

lol

JR-

MBP8 has seen better days and I know you use(d) them so is there anything out there comparable? Can't find anything local to try on so should I just suffer till the NXG comes out?

Thanks, I just found a one95 on clearance.

Where at? I'd like to try one, and if the one95 is the same thing I might as well try to find one.

How is it complicating anything?

Instead of buying the "girdle shell," buy a pro stock one, or find an old pair of pants and use the lowers. You can even go as far as to gut a pair of one-piece pants and have additional kidney/rib protection.

It's got a better structure to it, it's more secure as you can lace instead of just having a single belt, so it doesn't shift, it's got better nylon, hamstring protection, and you can enhance protection by keeping the thigh pads in there if you choose to.

I fail to see the problem here. NHL EQMs agree with me.

Woah that's a good idea. My Warrier shell is breaking apart already after half a season so that maybe a great option. I know I need more protection as well as the 9k girdle still lacks for the type of hockey I play. I don't agree with icewalker that 9ks are extremely heavy though. To me they're weightless, even though I've always played with extremely light pants.

The 9k is heavy compared to any other girdle on the market, because of the overall excellent protection. I wonder what level of hockey you play, since the 9k is the choice of many ahl/nhl players for the protection it offers.
