Your opinion on shin guards

Recommended Posts

The Vapor line is surprisingly protective. I'm using the x:40s right now, and I don't feel anything while falling, and on the few shots I've blocked I haven't felt much.

Slim yet protective: APX

Somewhat slim yet protective: TotalOne or Projekt

Tank-like protection: High end Reeboks.

Reeboks are the way to go as far as protection. Though, I have no experience with Nexus's.

I wouldn't call the APXs slim by any means. Being a 'tapered' design has the upper calf area below the knee awkwardly wide I find; a wierd fit. Slimmer than a Reebok I suppose, but pads like CCM and Stealth are more anatomical, with Supreme there too to a lesser extent.

I'm looking for the opposite of slim.

My first shinpads were x:30. One fall on my knees prompted me to immediately buy new ones. Hurt like a mofo, like the bottom of the kneecap pad dug into my shin.

Now in Supremes... not much better. Hoping the Nexus works out.

I meant slim depth-wise. They are a low volume pad, and seem pretty slim while under socks compared to other pads

The people saying the RBK 11K 14" fits like a 13" are spot-on. I tried them on at hockeymonkey yesterday. They're MUCH shorter than the 14" One60 shins I was wearing. Something about them just didn't feel quite right though. Ended up with the Nexus 1000, as I had expected. Tried them on at home... I'm finally able to have my tongues out!

went with the cmm crazy lights. the nexus was also great, however I didn't like the liner and I also assumed the CL's would dry faster after games since live in a apartment and have to let them dry inside. thanks all

Yea, the nexus liner is REALLY scratchy on the skin. Hoping it softens up over time.

it does. I have had mine since they came out

Phew! Thank you! I was actually worried about that. Feels like a brillo pad on my knees.

I have the Bauer x3.0 right now and am thinking about the x7.0

Any thought on those? I have chicken legs below the knees so I like something not so deep fitting. I also like the strap system on the x7.0 and apx

agreed when I first got them I was worried about the same thing. I dont even think it took that long for them to soften up.

In addition, see if you can try an Easton Stealth pad in the RS line, maybe an 85S. Don't rule out a CCM pad either.

Those RS pads are gawwwwwjuss! I just wish my legs were skinny enough to wear them. I especially love that the kneecap is FABRIC so you dont rip holes through your socks. Why more MFGRs havent figured this out, I don't know..

In my opinion, you need to find what fits first because all pro-style pads are going to be protective. A CCM or Reebok 16" shin pad is too long for me but a 15" is too short. A Bauer 16" shin fits me perfect.

I still use the Bauer Pro Lightspeeds which was based on the Bauer 4000, and I believe this is what the Nexus 1000 is based on. I have no complaints, the knee caps are bulletproof.

If u are a 14 in Bauer vapor, current line, would u be a 14 in 9k and 11k?

The sizes are shinpads are literally a measurement of the shinpad. Yes, you'll be the same size in that regard. Have to pay attention to how it fits though. Some shin guards are deep, some are wide, others are shallow and taper.
