Vapor 7.0 skates owners...

Just acquired a brand new pair today. Did these skates break in easily? As...maybe compared to reebok 11ks? Did you bake them? What can I expect from these skates as far as comfort/break in period?

a stiff skate? or more in the middle spectrum?

thanks..

how do you like the fit? if fit is good then you're gonna be very happy with these, and for a long time.. these are high quality skates.

Plenty of topics covering the x60 though (including long term reviews) so you may want to check them out...

Thanks for the replies... Fit seems very snug, toes are just touching the caps, which is strange because I DROPPED a half size. These are 6s..was in a 6.5 BOTH are E width. (well EE for Bauer)

Ahh yes, just checked that the X60s are almost identical. I'll search more reviews on those as well. My 11s broke in fast! They never fir properly though. I failed the pencil test with em, but the vapors are deeper,

and I'm able to actually snug up ALL the laces now. SURPRISINGLY..the toe cap is LARGER than that of the 11K. I'll bake them this week then...

I baked mine and after two skates they were good. Seriously the greatest skates I've ever had. Fit, comfort, performance....all 10's. As long as they were fitted properly I think you'll be happy once they are broken in.

A pretty good pair of skates. Average break-in period - stiffer skate - I recommend baking. I find that they're stiffer and more durable than the 11k's.

So I figured I'd just sit around in em for a while tonight...and I've come to the conclusion that if this crappy tongue doesn't break in ,, i'm gonna be disappointed. What an uncomfortable, hard, too formed POS this thing is.

It's thin, and not spongy too! I guess this is a "pro" thing, being these are kinda high end skates, but I'm not pleased after sittin in em for 1/2 hr. Maybe baking will soften and form fit it better? I certainly hope so. The 7.0 tongue is a FAIL IMO... The vapor 5.0 and 11K tongues are BOTH more comfortable than these are..

p.s. Don't be too harsh, I'm an intermediate level hockey player....

On the bright side...they really fit well. Toes come off the cap when bending at the knees, and the ankle lock is like night and day compared to my 11ks. REALLY snug and comfortable.

Sounds like someone scored a deal on 7.0 skates. Did you save $300?

I have the 6.0's, when I initially tried them they were very comfortable except in one portion on the left food where they pinched in. After baking them they were perfect so you might want to give that route a go. Best fitting skate I've been in. The tongue on the 6.0 took a bit getting used to, I think the 7.0 is very similar but it is stiff. It did not become any less stiff after baking but I've adjusted to it and actually like how it sits against my foot since I wear my shins in front anyway. I never felt like the stiff tongue limited my skating in anyway.

First off, I like to flop the tongues on my skates, so let me get that out there right away - I don't like the feeling of them tucked under my shins and I don't like they way they look when I leave them sticking straight up

I found the tongue to be super stiff on my Vapor X:Velocity skates (X:4.0 mixed with X:5.0 features). It eventually worked in so that I could wear it flopped, but I literally had to put clamps on the tongues after every skate to form them. It is kind of like working a curve into a new baseball hat. After almost a year of skating on them 3x a week, the tongues still were stubborn as heck.

It's too bad that they don't have the same tongue as the Supreme One.9 skates. I was able to flop that tongue the instant I took them out of the box, thanks to what I can only assume is a 'scored' lace bite guard. I'm not sure what exactly the difference is between the tongues on the two skates, but the lace bite guard on the Vapor seemed to have one solid (and thick!) piece of plastic.

I have x30s now and I'm in the market for new ones as mine are falling apart after 2.5 years. Anyways I went to my LHS and was considering the x7.0s, but was told the x7.0s were probably too much of a jump for me b/c of how stiff they are. The employee there said I would be fine being that I skate 2-3 times per week, but that the 5.0 were probably the next step for me. Stiffer than what I'm in but not a huge jump. The reason I am telling you this is b/c he also said that most of the pro stock skates have the base boot of the 5.0s b/c the NHLers like the regular felt tongue as opposed to the form fit one on the 6.0 and above. Not sure if this guy knows what he's talking about or not but that sounded reasonable to me. I also know he was not trying to sell me on anything b/c he told me that if I like the way my 30s feel then I should stick with those until I really needed new ones.

Had them baked today, and it seems the tongue actually formed a little bit to my foot. Not what I'd call comfortable yet, but a slight improvement nonetheless. Baking certainly helped them fit better and eliminated a few EXTRA TIGHT spots.. If it becomes such a concern, I'll certainly look into replacing the tongue. Hopefully I'm just crying wolf too early in my new skates experience...

I've had my 7.0LEs about a year. They took a while to break in compared to my Vapor 40s but they were never uncomfortable. The tongue is fine... not an issue for me. Very responsive skate. I like it.

Saved ALOT more than that! They were a surprise Christmas gift from the main company I subcontract for... :)

Just skated for 20 minutes at a public skate. Felt UNBELIEVABLY responsive! These are certainly "twitchy" skates. Can turn on a dime, and carve like a butcher. My ONLY concern now is I have a pinch in both skates on the inner

part just before my toes. Didn't hardly feel it at all when I skated, but walkin in them, I could feel 'em pinching. My LHS recommended NOT to rebake, and start playing hockey in them. Those guys were confident that the "pinch" was

something that would break in soon...

Overall.. They are incredible skates. Stiffer than my reeboks or my 5.0 vapors, but power transfer in the 7.0s was a NOTICABLE difference.

If the "pinch" is where the toe cap is sewn to the boot, I wouldn't expect too much of a change even with a bake. That part is plastic and dosen't move.

Played pick up for over an hour today, never noticed the pinch after I started skatin. Talk about a responsive skate! Definately a pro end skate, maybe too much for me. Hopefully I'll get used to them. The 5.0 vapors

had some "flex" to them. I don't feel that at all in the 7.0s. I must admit that it felt kinda odd playing hockey for the first time in them. Kept me on my toes, that's for sure. I can see why top level players select this model of skate.
