Jack Parker to retire

Parker set to retire at the conclusion of this season. Surprised to hear the news, but at 68 who can blame him.

For those who don't recognize the name. Parker has coached the Boston University Terriers for 40 years.

It's about time. He really blew it by not retiring after the 2009 national title.

Needless to say, it's been a mess since that season - BC won 2 national titles, BU lost 4 straight Beanpots (which is VERY VERY VERY important at BU), they had two kids arrested for sexual assault, a few suspensions, and several other kids leaving midseason, including Charlie Coyle of the Minnesota Wild. And of course a university-led task force which concluded the hockey program had a culture of sexual entitlement and stripped Parker of his executive athletic director role.

Will be very interested to see who they hire in his place.

Some years back I heard Mike Sullivan was basically passing time in the NHL waiting for Parker to retire. Seems pretty settled in Tampa so maybe things have changed.

Sullivan and Quinn should be the two front-runners for the position. Given that BU had success during Quinn's tenure as a recruiter and assistant coach at BU recently, I think he's the obvious choice.
