Pants question

Recommended Posts

Excuse me if this topic has been covered before but I was looking to get some feedback on a couple of styles of pants while theres some remaining in the clearance section of a few retailers.

I'm currently in a pair of Bauer Supreme One60s and was looking to replace them soon.

I had tried on a pair of CCM U+12 and the CCM Crazy Strong, I liked the feel of both but felt that extra tailbone protection of the CS made them feel but bulkier.

Currently I'm looking into the Bauer Vapor X7.0 or Supreme One80 with a possibility of the TotalOne. My main question is whether I'm going to encounter the extra tailbone padding as I move up the model line in the Bauers. Also, is there any difference in the lengths of the Vapors vs the Supremes? I'm 6'2" with fairly long legs and my current pair is just long enough, in other words I'd prefer not to go any shorter.

As you move up, you will indeed have thicker and more protective tailbone padding in general. In terms of length between Vapor and Supreme, any perceived difference in length might be caused by the different stlye of canting of the pants. Based on a large sample of pant fittings, I would firmly say that there should not be any significant difference in length between the auer lines. What you will notice is that CCM pants are shorter size-for-size; both in length and in kidney padding height.

I just moved from some CCM V06s in a medium to the Bauer Supreme One80s in a medium tall. I much prefer the traditional fit of the Bauer Supreme line & the extra inch of length from the tall size helps them fit me better than the CCMs did. I did notice the kidney & spine pads seemed taller in the Bauer Supremes as well (the cup from my compression jock seems to fit better in the Bauers too). I prefer the Bauers to the CCMs, because I feel better protected & that I can move freer in them (obviously that is just my personal preference, but I thought another opinion might help you out). The only issue I have with the Bauer pants is the leg zippers seem to get caught up in the lining when trying to zip them closed an awful lot, but I figure its an issue I will figure out eventually.

I'd definitely stick with Bauer

Why? Length aside I thought the U+12 blew away the One80 in terms of build quality, fit, and protection at the same price point.

Just thought I would add I am in the same boat and leaning towards the Reebok 9k's.

Don't want to hijack but for future viewers of this thread I want to add that the tailbone protection and even thigh protection on the Bauer One 60's are minimal. I am nursing a 3 week old bruised tailbone after falling with my One60 pants and feeling NO PADDDING at all when I fell. This is the main reason for my decision to upgrade.

To the OP, I found the difference between the One60 & One80 to be marginal. I thought the gap between the two would have been bigger.

One80 is good pant with decent protection and mobility. I'd grab those in the tall version. Being 6'2" also the extra length was nice to have.

I had the same problem with an old pair of CCM tacks, so I upgraded to Total One last year. I looked at the One60 and One 80... from what I remember, the One80 had a little more tailbone padding than the One60, but not by much, and the tailbone padding that was there felt too short (I'm 6'-0"), so if that's a concern, I don't think the One80 is recommended. The Total One has great tailbone protection and is not bulky at all in my opinion, in fact I think they feel way less bulky than my old pants, and have triple the protection. I'm really happy with them in every way. So to answer the OP's question about more tailbone protection as you go up in the Bauer line, yes, but not adequate IMO until you get to the TO. Kidneys and spine would probably be fine in either, but the tailbone padding is the one thing that made me skip the One80 and go for the TOs.
