LS2 vs Tuuk Super Steel

Recommended Posts

My LHS said that I need to replace the steel on my Vapor 4.0 skates (steel is very low). They were out of stock and ordered me the LS2 runners. Is there a difference between LS2 runners and the Tuuk Super Steel runners that I believe my skates came with?

The LS2's have a better grade of stainless steel and will come out with a nicer finish after a sharpening leading to better glide. See if you can find a set of LS3, Step or Black Edge runners. They are all better than LS2 with Step being the best IMO.

LS2 is taller than the Super as well. I would've gone with the LS3 for a few bucks more though, it's available at retail this year and it's an even taller runner.

Just saw this thread, have a similar problem and wanted to confirm. Will LS3 fit all LS2 holders? I have Supreme One100s that need new steel, think they came with the LS 2.1 runners originally. Is LS3 the best way to go? Thanks!

You could go with Step steel which is a little nicer but also more expensive. Yes, LS3 will fit LS2 holders, including skates that originally came with the 2.1 power runners, but make sure you get LS3 steel for LS2 holders as opposed to the type made for Lightspeed Edge holders. The front of the steel will look similar on both, but there are different connection mechanisms in the back.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. I don't mind paying a bit more for the other brand if it's considered better quality. What are the advantages of the Step runners?

Your skate sharpener will like you more. As a sharpener, Step is so effortless to sharpen properly. Minimal spark up and smooth grain after polishing.
