A hole at the toe of my skate. Bauer warranty tough to deal with...

Recommended Posts

Take a look at the below pictures. Has anyone had a hole like that in their skates?
I just got my skates a couple months ago and paid $450 for them. It took a couple emails and forever for bauer to respond in email to me. They reply "given what I see in the photo, this is likely wear and tear from the game and not a defect since no one can make a skate boot that is indestructible in a physical sport like hockey"

They say they can inspect the skate if I ship it there but most likely wear and tear from the game. This sucks if the hole keeps getting worse and Bauer doesnt warrant me after I paid $450 for these.

I agree with them. Hockey is a rough sport and that gouge could have come from another person's skate.

You can easily patch that up with epoxy. I've had success with marine-grade, due to the fact that it's waterproof.

Not sure how long he's had the shoe but I know they have a 90 day boot warranty, normal wear & tear or not Bauer could be stand up and honor the warranty if he's within that period. These companies all build in warranty into the costs of the product which is part of why they're so damn expensive.

They build a warranty into the product based upon manufacturing defects. That is not a defect, that is something that just happened during play, therefore, not warranty.

Regardless of if it did or didn't occur in a warranty positive situation the injury is benign at worst. A little JB Weld, some smart masking tape work, you'll have a pair of skates you'll love; and there won't be a difference from a new pair.

I recently had my One.9 skates that I got in June get punctured by another skate. Tried several kinds of epoxy and nothing was holding up so emailed Bauer just to see what they would say and they immediately agreed to send me a new pair. Couldn't be more satisfied with how they handled it, definitely did not expect them to replace the skates.

It never hurts to contact a manufacturer. Often they will replace something via "goodwill", even though the damage is not defect related.
