Best way to add grip?

Recommended Posts

Looking to add grip to my non grip sticks. Anyone have advice? I've read rubbing tape around the corners but I wasn't sure if that was taking the whole roll and rubbing on the stick or taking a small piece of tape and rubbing the corners.

What you see in the NHL are guys using tape beaters. More or less they take a piece of wood(about the length of a replacement plug) and wrap tape inside out. Having the sticky side out you can apply the grip from the tape to the shaft. Doesnt last forever and sometimes can effect the palms of your gloves.

I haven't tried this cause I prefer non-grip but a couple of my buddies have put Scotch double sided tape down the shaft and loved it.

Hey Curt. Been there done that. I have tried the following...

http://www.noskid.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=56_94

http://www.krylon.com/products/nonskid_coating/

The first two add grip but it is not like the typical "rubbery" grip on sticks. It is a gritty type of grip. It is supposedly similar to a finish one of the stick mfgrs used to put on their sticks called polar fibre, but I never used one so I don't know how close the comparision is. The second is less gritty (and therefore less grippy) than the first one. Both of the first two last a pretty long time. The third one is like stickum but that it doesn't come off on your gloves. The downside to it is that it only lasts a couple of games before you have to reapply. Also the spray nozzle on the can clogs very easily. The last one (Plasti-dip) is the closest in feel to what you get on a grip stick these days (that rubbery feel). The down side is that it eventually starts to peel off. My preference now would be 1) buying a stick with grip 2) The first (NoSkid) one. I can show you the next time you show up on Sunday night what the NoSkid one looks/feels like.

When Bert Godin from the Blues was working at Johnny Macs, I asked him what the pros use he said the only thing he has ever seen them use is a tape beater.

ive used the krylon on my outdoor stick where i would be using it with old beatup gloves and it was ok. i didnt like the sandpaper type feeling. it got less abrasive over time but it juat wasnt for me.

i see mybauer offers different grips like corner twiatibg. middle 3rd texture etc etc but i qonder how it would change shaft feel especially on the rounded apx sticks. i may try the plastidip stuff though. never used a grip stick in my life.
