Boot Stretching

Recommended Posts

After searching through the forums, I don't think that this had been touched on...

I have one foot which is slightly (1/4 size) larger than the offer. I bought skates based on my smaller foot and now I am trying to accomodate for the larger foot.

After breaking-in a pair for skates for roughly 10hours or so, I still feel as though my right foot is crammed against the front of the toecap (causing much discomfort). I want to have the skate stretched out, just the right boot, however I am wondering what effects professional boot-stretching has on the fit of the skate, other than the obvious, making the skate lightly longer, will the skate become slightly more narrow? Can boot stretching effect heel lock? Etc.

I'd be interested to hear others experiences.

Thanks.

If you wear socks, try a thinner sock or even barefoot. That can buy more space than you think.

I had to get some X60's done and talked to a guy at our LHS who used to work in a pro shop in Canada that dealt with boot repairs, stretching etc. You can get a small amount with a stretch but if you want a 1/4 size or more then the only way is to heat and punch the toe cap out. You run the risk of separating the toe cap totally from the boot but this is what he used to do for his boots before he went the custom route.
