turn around time for custom jerseys

Recommended Posts

hey guys, i know a lot of you have experience with custom jerseys... i'm wondering if this sounds odd to any of you...

We paid for the jerseys well in advance of even placing the order, and when we did (July 16th) the retailer told us 6 weeks. the other day I spoke directly with the maker of the jerseys (SP) and the agent there told me "that order is for Mid-October, then, depending on how the retailer wants it shipped, you'll get it after that". I know we are sending in our order around the same time that every other hockey order would be coming in, but 12+ weeks sounds like a crazy long time. these are sublimated jerseys, two sets. any feedback is appreciated.

I guess it depends on how custom your jerseys are. Custom jerseys based on our own design etc probably take more time. This why my team went with sublimation thru Junkyard Athletic.

Chadd, if I may describe what we do...we always quote 8 weeks. Even if we know we can get the order done in 2 weeks, we quote 8 weeks. The reason being is there is always something that can occur that will push things back. I'm not saying something will occur, just that it can.

Smart plan, there are a lot of other people out there that quote very optimistic time frames and are late far too often.

I agree with Junkyard. I always quote longer that way if I deliver "early" I'm a hero. Otherwise, I'm making promises I know I can't keep. I learned that a long time ago. In team business you only have one chance to get it right. Nature of the beast.

i think the best business practice is to follow that rule, and I do always... so i guess a part of me was hoping the LHS would be too, so when I heard it was actually double their timeline, I got a little concerned. i can live with the fact that a project takes 12 weeks, i just wanted to see if it was normal, from guys who have done it before.

as for the jersey design, it's straight forward... its a fully sublimated vintage oilers jersey with our team name stylized into the oilers logo. nothing crazy, just numbers on the back and on the sleeves, and the logo on the front.

regarding the order date, i'm going by the date on the work order document that SP sent to me, which was after i approved the art.

marcelo, I would love to do business with you someday, I've always loved your product and your reputation is stellar, the only thing stopping me is that invisible line at the 49th parallel, and all the hassle it brings.

You need to have a discussion with noodle3872. He's in VAN as well and it hasn't stopped him...

Oh Chris...remember that next time you call me.

Haha I've always been happy with your timelines! You've always been upfront and honest with me. :)

You shouldn't have any duty problems as the jerseys and socks are covered under NAFTA. You're still going to pay GST, etc.

thats interesting and a little disheartening at the same time, because i recall once we chatted about jerseys (chronic taco) and I was bound to pay something like 15% or 18% at the border.

I've ordered jerseys out of Toronto in the past. Do team sets fall under different rules? They usually drove the order across the border and shipped from Buffalo. Had an order from them that came from Russia that was horribly delayed due to the KHL plane crash and well also Russia. He shipped them from Toronto and I had to pay extra. Shipping across the US/Canada border has gotten a lot more complicated and costly post 9/11, as has crossing the border in general.

The extra I had to pay was not to him. It was to FedEx who filled the now required "broker" role for cross border shipping. Had to pay it directly to them on delivery, can't remember exactly what it was called now but the gist of it was because it was a team set of jerseys. Didn't even matter that it was for a 501-3C not for profit youth organization.

I have had zero problems bringing the jerseys across the border. I use a shipping/receiving shop in Sumas WA to receive the jerseys. I just walk across, pick the jerseys up and pay the taxes. So easy even a caveman can do it. I you want more details, send me a message.

My mom just used a similar service out of Buffalo. Although looking at their business model, I'm pretty sure many of their customers aren't stopping to pay their taxes on the way back across the border.
