Crunch sound in my blade

Recommended Posts

Curious, I was retaping my stick (Easton RS) the other night and while applying pressure to the blade with the palm of my hand I noticed a crunch sound in my blade. No visible cracks in the blade, so obviously it has to be the foam core in the blade. With that being said: does this mean my blade is pretty much toast or does it still have life.

My NXG and Mako before it had this. To me, both sticks feel like they stick handle a little softer (not in a good way) after this happened. In both cases I think it was from the blades getting stepped on during sweep checks.

Actually not all sticks with foam core do this. I say that because none of my others do this. Thats why I was asking. Just curious if call it a day or use it until the entire blade goes.

The outside face of the blade is still intact, but the foam core has suffered some sort of degradation in a small way. The stick obviously isn't in perfect shape anymore, but it doesn't mean it's going to snap on your next shot. I've had many Easton blades that lasted for months and months (some for over a year), depending on which part of the blade is affected.

That is pretty much exactly what I would say. It has eventually happened to every foam core blade I have ever used

Actually, all sticks with foam cores do do this when the blade is overflexed. The foam is rigid and cracks. No stick is immune.

I may be weird, but I dump my sticks when the blade starts getting soft and crunchy. The "pop" is much less when shooting and the puck feel is awful.

My bad Jimmy, what I meant was that my newer sticks don’t make that noise.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Happy to hear that I don’t have a lot to be concerned about at the moment.
