Pro-Stock APX skates - debating

Recommended Posts

hi guys, first post yeah I know.. need some help here

I'm debating buying a pair of game used pro stock Bauer APX skates. They have noticeable wear on them but are not beat-up. The nicer looking ones I found on ebay or classifieds either are too expensive or not my size ( 11D ). I'm a pretty tall and heavy guy and I like stiff boots, so I'm wondering if these new APX skates can keep their stiffness even after decent game use at pro level. I've bought used vapor xxxx's back in the day (not pro-stock) with decent wear on them, but since the boot still felt stiff (trying to squeeze it by hand in the store), I bought them anyway. I later realized the boot had really bad ankle support and was pretty much done.. great skate to use outdoors but that's about it.

I'm thinking the new plastic ish material on the APX looks more durable, and on a pro skate they might be even better quality. Did the player change them because the boot was done or because he upgraded for APX2's?

Any hep/ experiences appreciated!

thanks

Without being able to handle/examine the skate in person you have no way of knowing what the structural integrity or even the fit for that matter is. The while it's a size 11, there are many different specs the player they were made for could have changed making the skate uncomfortable or unwearable for others.

The player could've ordered 1 for stiffness and if I'm not mistaken is the least stiff option possible making the boot super soft when he received them. If you are not able to inspect the skate first hand I'd recommend staying away.

Although if you were able to find the stiffness and it wasn't a soft skate if it was in good shape then it shouldn't be an issue. I have Sam Gagner's skates that he wore for entire season. (the season he scored 8pts in a game) and if any person not playing AAA hockey could easily use them for a couple more seasons. I would post a pic but I do not know how to put up here.

wow thanks guys that's some great info. seller says they are stock stiffness but probably has no clue to be honest.. I can't inspect them before buying so I think I'm gonna stay away. I guess ill just spend what it costs.
