Referee jerseys

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! :)

I'm currently in my 3rd year being a ref and I was looking at getting a referee jersey with sewn-on armbands. Problem is, the CCM one which appears to be the go to choice has apparently been discontinued. It is pretty much impossible to find in Canada and it would cost me a HUGE premium if I were to buy it from the States (at least 40$). I've found it at a single Canadian retailer but in size 48 while I'd really prefer a size 46 (my current jersey size for lines).

I am therefore left with two options that are available on refstuff.ca which are the SP one and the Force one.

SP jersey: Basically no information about it, not even a picture. What is it worth if you've ever seen one? I've seen the Force one in person but no this one so I'd need more info regarding that.

Force jersey: I dont like the armbands which are ridiculously wide compared to the CCM jersey but is it a better option than the SP one?

Also, I've heard that the CCM jersey is made to fit in a looser way than the other jerseys so should I get a size 48 or 50 instead of a 46 if I go with an SP or Force jersey (I currently really like the fit of my 46 by the way)?

Thank you! :)

P.S. Before suggesting a retailer if you do so, please make sure that they sell jerseys with orange armbands since I work games in Quebec only which requires orange armbands instead of red. If it's simply to show what the jersey looks like, I don't care though.

Thank you for the suggestions but I'm actually looking for retailers inside Canada since it quickly becomes expensive with the shipping and duties. Do you have any experience with any of these jerseys?

refstuff.ca is a Canadian site and they still have the CCM Jerseys with the sewn in bands. They also sell the Force and SP jerseys. I'd also keep an eye on your local kijiji and craigslist sites there are some good jersey deals on those from time to time.

Yeah that's where I usually shop. Unfortunately, they only have the the CCM jersey in sizes 50+ which is too large and they only provide the same stock image as the CCM jersey which leaves me with absolutely no way of knowing what it looks like... :(

There's something fairly plausible that I just thought of an hour ago: What if CCM jerseys are not discontinued as I thought but simply running low on stock because CCM only manufactures a single batch per year? That would make senss since it doesn't feel logical to stop making the obvious best seller in any market... I haven't been looking at this kind of stuff for long enough so I don't know if they usually follow the same pattern of getting harder to find through the season with stock magically reappearing just before the next one.

It's possible. It's smart to do Referee shopping during the summer time. Come August, everyone is geared up and ready to buy away. I try to buy more popular equipment during offseason (I'll looking for a new helmet this Spring/Summer ha). I'm sure others have different ways of avoid the 'Out of Stock' conundrum.

It is very probable that the stock is low.... It can be nearly impossible to find some brands, models, sizes anytime but spring. I've dealt with that for 25 years now..... no one has what I want in stock when I want\have the cash to buy it..... Usually end up saving the cash and buying sometime between April and July.....

SP makes an excellent quality Pro jersey, the lightweight one should be avoided. At one point they were making Bauer's ref jerseys and pants, but that was a number of years ago. I still have mine from when I was running my shop that is almost ten years old. I highly recommend them.

I don't recommend the new CCM jerseys. The material is very thin, unlike a few years ago, and the collars flap around when you build up much speed... makes you feel fast, but looks bad and is annoying, the collar on my new CCMs will literally fly up and slap my face while skating...

At any rate, aside from the material issue, I'd say the CCM jerseys definitely seem to fit loose. I'm 5'9 145 lbs, wear a size 44 and it still is a bit baggy I think. Probably not the best fit if you are tall and thin.
