Where can I buy this Under Armour mouthguard?

Recommended Posts

I noticed Rick Nash wearing this mouthguard in the game vs. NYI yesterday:

Does anyone know the name of this mouthguard, and where to find it? It looks really comfortable, and is clear.

I use this mouthguard, the ArmourBite:

I like the ArmourBite, but it is a bit bulky, and difficult to speak and drink through. I would prefer something like the one I saw Rick Nash wearing, which looks more gel'ish and more comfortable.

(Note: I tried SISU, I just cannot get it to fit. I mold it, just like the video says, and it feels fine, until I let it sit for 12 hours and then put it back in my mouth, at which point it feels like it wants to move my teeth. So, I know everyone loves SISU and whatever else, I am really just trying to find where I can buy this specific UA guard. Thanks in advance)

I wear a full cage, and play beer league/ no checking. Still though, there is the occasional prick who thinks it is cool to plow in for a full body check, to an unsuspecting puck handler. I am not too concerned about tooth breakage, as I have the full cage- I just want something to resist/retard/repel/reduce incidence of concussions if I land on my head. I understand that the mouthguard helps with this.

1) I have tried SISU, but I just can not fit it right. I watched the video, tried to fit it 10 times, but it just is not comfortable.

2) I use UA Armourbite, but too bulky. It fits in my mouth, but I think it is just cumbersome.

3) I am waiting for insurance company to advise if they will cover custom mouth guard from dentist (I hope they approve).

So, if #3 does not come through for me, then is the Under Armour Performance Mouthpiece a good option to serve as concussion retardant?

(Apologies in advance- I could not find this item on the UA.com page, or on TotalHockey.com- I do not mean to promote for IW - cheers)

concussion proof is a bad term, nothing can make you concussion proof.

Good point, I just changed to "concussion resistant/retardant/repellant" ... unfortunately, I am unable to change the title of the thread.

Nothing's that either.

But was it necessary to create another post?

And what does the "(Apologies in advance- I could not find this item on the UA.com page, or on TotalHockey.com- I do not mean to promote for IW - cheers)" mean?

My job at TH has no relation to my job on MSH, and vice versa. I don't shill TH on here, and I don't shill MSH at TH.

a) Fair enough- the new post created was of a separate, but related matter, I thought, so I had hoped to see this "Answered Thread" disappear into forum oblivion. If I could change the thread title to "Under Armour Mouthguards," then I would. Had I had the foresight to see the future as to the direction of my stream of consciousness re: the matter of mouthguards, then I also would have appropriately titled this thread "Under Armour Mouthguards Questions," and just kept all of my questions on the matter here.

b) I noticed some non-TH employees try to link to TH items when referencing products. I have also seen people who work for companies being delicate on this matter. So, just trying to steer clear of any controversy, and not ruffle anyone's feathers. No implication intended that you, or anyone else, is a shill. I got no qualm with you man, or anyone else here, just trying to be in compliance with forum standards, that's all.

---

So, in the interest of getting my question appropriately constructed, and hopefully responded to:

"Does the Under Armour Performance Mouthguard offer the same concussion resistance that a standard mouthguard offer?"

i dont see how that mouthguard would be any more or less concussion repellant than any other mouthguard really.

as for the TH thing, If he hadnt announced it in the TH coming to michigan thread that I started, I am not sure how many could draw conclusions that he worked there now. Ive even told him, in his store, that I purchased a product at another store (couldnt pass up the deal =)) and he still allowed me to go to WF. The recent uptick in TH links also might have something to do with the fact they have expanded into a major market well represented on this board, and its now a "local hockey shop" to people like me

If you want to try something different, I use the Gel Max mouthguard from Shock Doctor (when I remember to do so) and, being very particular about things, it's actually reasonably comfortable and don't feel like it's crowding around my mouth or yanking my teeth in strange directions. I don't get knocked around so much in hockey, but also found it comfortable for playing catcher in baseball/softball, where I do get run over fairly regularly. It's about $10 - $12 so it won't break the bank if you don't like it.

Gel max guards lasted me an average of about 8 games before they fell apart. They were ok on the comfort level for me

You are doing it wrong with your dentist if you are getting a custom mouthguard. You should be getting a device to prevent you from grinding your teeth at night, aka a nightguard.

Realistically though, if you're going to a dentist that wont do you a mouthguard for about $60 (if insurance wont pay for it), you need to find a different dentist. The process that goes into making a nightguard/mouthguard is something on of their dental assitants can do.

Source: I've spent plenty of time in the dentist chair getting nightguard's for the sole purpose of hockey playing.
