Adding belly guard to CL Shoulders?

Recommended Posts

If I am standing up, my belly is extremely exposed to slap shots. I would like to take the belly guard off my old shoulders and sew on a bit of velcro to the CL shoulders. I am a bit apprehensive about trying to sew into the CL foam material. Any experience or suggestions in this?

Check where stuff is sewn on your shoulders and try to go in that direction. You could also sew more abdominal protection to your pants. I am going to add abdominal to my pants as well as to the shoulder pads. I may bloody well hate that combo, as this could prove that more is not necessarily better. Bloody hell- I always want to make a better mouse trap, but it isn't always the case. Maybe I am nutters...

I have never worked with CL foam.

That sounds like a lot of stuff in a major "hinge" area of the body. A padded flap on the pants and another hanging down don't sound like they will play nice together. There is a reason most pads that have extended stomach pads make them removable...

i agree as above. if your going to add abdominal protection, stick with adding it to the shoulders.

Might hate that, fo sho. Never hurts to experiment. I use my stuff, so no resale value. I was actually wanting to reinforce the belly protection on the pants, rather than raise it up. I block a fair few shots, so I definitely want as much protection as possible.

And maybe I should have expressed it as an "either/or" thing.

No need to sew through the U Foam. I just used the Velcro with the sticky tape-like back on my CL shoudlies, and it is holding just fine. Problem was when I skated, the belly guard interfered with the top of my pants and it was just annoying. I wear XL CL pants though and jack them up- so if your pants do not come up high then maybe you won't have this problems.

I would use something soft like the G-form padding or even the stuff Farrell used in their shoulder pads if I were going to make a belly pad. Something that moves with the body but still offers protection.

Get yourself some prostock hustler pants (comes with 6-pack protector). Problem solved.
