Minimalist Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

Since we dont carry either of these in the shop im going to have to go the online route. Anyone have anything negative or positive to say about either of these, or one vs the other? I'm playing at a high level so whichever one has more protection, even though they both barely have any would be the prefered model.

I can't give you any advice on the two pairs of shoulder pads you're looking at, but you should also consider the Sher-Wood Traditional shoulder pads. I own a pair and they're great for no-checking leagues.

Cavs,

if you can find them check out the Hespeler Classic Lite's..they are a similar design..but have a bit more in the cap and some plastic in the same style chest...

i'm in a sr league at the moment..but want a little more than what the SherWood, et. al have to offer..last time i found a pair of Brine Lacrosse pads that worked well...

The Utah Grizzles used some of these (Sher-Woods). They look pretty decent - real old-school. No, they don't offer a great deal of protection (1cm of dense foam from what I could tell), but they offer reasonable protection against slashes and light elbows.

I wouldn't want to take a slapper in the chest with one though.

However, if I were to go the minimalist route, I'd take these Sher-Woods (http://www.oceanhockey.com/LargeImage.asp?ItemId=252) over the Bauer (http://www.hockeygiant.com/bauclscspsr.html) , Easton (http://www.1800faceoff.com/prod_selected.ihtml?prod_id=2278&cat_id_on=53&shop_id=1), or other (http://www.1800faceoff.com/prod_selected.ihtml?prod_id=3798&cat_id_on=53&shop_id=1) versions.

The original classic lites are even more minimal, the second version was a bit more substantial. Hespeler also had a Vintage series last year that was similar to the Sher-wood and DR/Ferland.
