MThockeydad 469 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 I bought a pair of x7.0s and put ~50 days in them last season and probably at 30 so far this year. How many days is realistic? I'm 190#, 6-6", C level skater.Total Hockey has a Black Friday 25% off on clearance skates and has X6.0's in my size, $187 shipped. The x7.0s are still in decent shape, but I'd hate to pass up a good deal!

mc88 160 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 I found that x60s fit different than x70s.

MThockeydad 469 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 X6.0's (from 3 years ago, similar to today's x80, sold for $450), not x60's.
start_today 773 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 If your only skating 50 times a year, those skates should last at least another few years. I dont know if that's good news or bad news for you.
MThockeydad 469 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 That's realistic news. Thanks for the feedback. I'll hold off!

MThockeydad 469 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 I figured there would be more enablers like Caihlen!I do already have 3 sets of LS2 steel.Did the x6.0s have the craptastic hard edged tongues that the x7.0s had??
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 Ok, then why did you start this thread if you're clearly seeking a confirmation bias?
IPv6Freely 2096 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 Keep what you have.If you have to work this hard to justify a <$200 purchase, you're probably better off not buying them.
MThockeydad 469 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 Ok, then why did you start this thread if you're clearly seeking a confirmation bias? Like that's never happened on the Internet! ;) Keep what you have. If you have to work this hard to justify a <$200 purchase, you're probably better off not buying them. I thought everyone here was a gear whore?! haha I'll go back and hide in my corner.
althoma1 575 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 Personally, I'd be tempted to upgrade to better skates if they were in my size at a great clearance price and relegate the old skates to a backup pair or to pickup a pair of the exact same skates as a backup pair. In this case you're talking about picking up a model of skates that's one level down from what you already have. I'd save your money and wait for (or find) a deal on a higher model or at least the same model you have already.I've been tempted by the clearance deals on the Mako skates, but haven't been able to justify that purchase because my current KOR Shift 2's are still going strong and I have a backup pair for both ice and roller in the closet. I do skate a lot of games as a referee (the KORs I just broke in this year have probably seen 200 games in the last 3 months and will see close to 500 by the late spring if I keep taking games at my current pace), but I think I can hold out for the Mako 2 clearance sales in 2016. I'd consider other skates, but after using KORs for years I'd lean toward another speed skate inspired skate like the Makos or VH skates...I just don't think the bargain hunter in me could spend $800 or more on skates so it'd more likely be the Mako's on clearance (which have stayed available in my size for $300 - if I didn't still have backup KORs I would've grabbed them already, but I think I can wait and hope to find the Mako 2's in my size for around that price sometime in 2016.)
