Cracked outsole on Bauer NXG skate

Recommended Posts

The skates are almost exactly 1 years old and today before my game I noticed the outsole was cracked on one of the skates. My warranty is obviously way out of the picture so I don't know what to do. Is it possible to fix it? If so, how?

I would love to post pictures but this forum isn't letting me attach anything for whatever reason ... :(

I'd definitely go for epoxy before cyanoacrylate (CA).

Since the crack is the carbon fiber fracturing/separating, you don't really need to scuff sand--you're not going for surface adhesion, you're trying to get epoxy down within the carbon fibers to attach everything back together again.

OP, where are you located, Canada?

Check the paint section at Canada Tire

or eBay:

The thinner the better.

You can also warm epoxy for 6-8 seconds in the microwave to get it to run easier and cure faster.

After seeing it,maybe some 2 part epoxy or like CA glue

Before you do anything contact Bauer's warranty department. They can be very understanding and may be able to help out.

Really appreciate all the help from everyone in the thread. Bauer said it would cost approximately 75$ to get it fixed although they are not certain. I will try Canadian tire, if not eBay for the epoxy and see how it goes!

You can definitely get the epoxy you need at either Crappy Tire or Walmart. I think Walmart keeps it in or near the Automotive section.

Also any of the big box stores like Rona, Reno, Home Depot carry it. Glue/adhesive section

I had a very similar instance with my Bauer Vapor 7.0's. The carbon out soles have cracked on both my left and right boot in the exact same spot. I contacted Bauer right after I noticed it and I was a couple months out of the factory warranty. Bauer said that they couldn't help me out and referred me to a shop in New Hampshire, I think, who they source all of their warranty work out to. At least that is what the lady on the phone told me. I contacted the shop and sent them pictures and they told me that the crack was cosmetic and not detrimental to the boot. I'm guessing that the crack is from flexing since they are in the same spot and no trauma is visible.

I've had that happen to each of my previous two Bauer skates (X7.0 and X100). It's purely cosmetic I've worn each boot 5x a week for at least a year after cracking. I glued one with model glue which held for a few monthes but I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Gunrunner,

Do you still have the contact information for that shop? Did you end up doing anything for the boot or just leave them in the end?

I don't think I do, I'll have to go back and see if I can dig it up. I tried putting epoxy on the cracked part and it lasted a few months like AllCanadian mentioned. This past summer, I had to send my skates to George's in Minnesota to have a couple eyelets replaced because no one in Ohio can do them. George's also confirmed that it was purely cosmetic and not to worry about it, so I have left it alone. I'm not gonna bother with it as I hope to order a pair of VH skates within the next year.
