New Skates?

Recommended Posts

Im looking to buy new. I want some light skates with great performance. Right now I have Mission Amp 3. I was at hockey and picked up one of my friends Vector 7.5 and they were very light. Thats mainly what im looking for..are Light skates with great performance. But I dont really want to spend more than 250 on them. I am willing to spend more but im afraid if I spend alot my feet may grow then...Ill grow out of them. Got any opinions or suggestions on what I should get?

Get the ones that FIT! If you go in with pre-concieved notions about certain skates and try to force your foot in you won't be happy. You need to get the ones that fit best. If its the vectors, great, if its Graf, Easton, Bauer, or whatever else your LHS has make sure it fits.

Well a lighter skate has to mean better performance? I am just saying why is everything right now about Bauer XX OR XXX..and the CCM vectors? I mean I think...in my opinion everybody is buying them due to the way they perform.

Bauer and CCM have also done a pretty aggressive marketing campaign here too. Lighter doesn't by itself equal better performance. Fit and comfort are key elements to consider too.

He said he wants light skates with good performance. He wasnt saying heavy skates couldnt have good performance, he just wants light skates.

HYPE, my friend...

Get the skate that fits you instead of the hottest thing out there.

I've made kids cry because I refuse to sell them Vapor XX or Vector Pros. Rather cry now than later when they are uncomfortable.

Can you do that??? ;)

It's all about finding a boot that fits; then you can worry about performance.

I have, on several occasions.

The last incident, the kid was so determined to buy XXs that I tried to put them in other skates and he refused to even stand up. There was so much tension that his parents got pissed off at the kid and took off the skates, thanked me for my time, told him he's not getting new skates, and left.

WHy wouldnt you sell them to him? Was he too little and they wouldnt fit or something?

I can understand not selling a little kid a OPS because they wouldnt really benifit from it. But why skates?

Becuase they don't need them, my first pair of skates cost me 49 bucks, and then I started to work up pricewise as I got older, but my skates now still only cost me 200 bucks(CCM Vector 6.0's), theres no need for those expensive skates at that young of an age IMO

EDIT: I think if JR didn't sell him the XX, he did it for a good reason, I am sure of that, JR's smart like that

I wouldnt refuse to sell them because "theres no need for them to have them". I mean, who are we to decide what someone else needs? if they want it, let them have it. But with that said, if the skates actualy dont FIT them, or something like that, then I can see refusing to sell them.

Seeing how JR does business, chances are he wouldn't sell the XX to the kid because they didn't fit him correctly. Or because the child didn't play enough to need to spend X amount of dollars on a pair of skates.

Well if they didnt fit I wouldnt refuse to sell them I would just recommend something like a diffeerent size. I agree with Crosskore...who are we to decide what they do or dont need. If they want to waste there money let them..thats there decision.

Well the newer skates, especially the top of the line skates, need to fit your foot. And that's not just size, a size 8 XX will fit different than a size 7.5-8.5 8090 because they're made for different kind of feet.

If the kid had flat, wide feet, the Vapors simply wouldn't fit his foot, no matter what size they were.

Well, when you start selling skates for a living and realize that feet aren't the same, then you'll see my point.

The teenager had wide, flat feet.

I refused to sell him a skate that wasn't going to work for him because I KNEW it wouldn't work for him.

I have had customers sign receipts saying that they went against my judgement and that if any problems occur, then I am not responsible.

I always used to refer parents like that to the owner, or told them to come back when he would be in. When you start directing people to other skates, and you're young, they tend to think you get more comission on one skate than another (I've been accused of it), so I would just direct them to the owner. And yes, usually he'd do EXACTLY what JR did.

He was a teenager and was being that big of a retard about it!?

That sounds ridiculous, like you should be mature enough about it to not... ahha that is funny. That sucks for the kid though, having to leave and not get new skates, but he deserved it
