MX3 skate rivet problem

Recommended Posts

There is ONE rivet on the interior of my left skate that is protruding ALOT. It's bothering me when I skate, as I can feel it.

Upon further inspection, it's clearly protruding much higher than all the rest of the rivets. My footbed has a large indentation from it sticking up so much.

So... Should I attempt to HAMMER it down? Could it be "filed" down? Skate repair shop perhaps? It's annoying the shit out of me.

Thanks,

Z..

Have your foot punched to accomodate the protruding rivet!

All kidding aside, just take it to a shop to have the rivet replaced. They'll probably do it for free, but at most it will cost you $2 or $3. Not worth the hassle of trying to fix it yourself.

Skate shop might even be able to punch that rivet harder...or replace it as boo10 said. Total easy non-issue fix for them.

If you don't have a skate shop within a couple hours of you, try a shoe and boot repair shop.

If you can't find a shoe shop, then try to hammer it down. Make sure you put something hard under the head of the rivet so the force flattens the rivet instead of pushing it outward.

Excellent... I will check the LHS to see if they can replace. I will then try the hammer method. TY!

I couldn't wait, so I used a hammer, and a flat punch to tap the edges of the rivet flatter. problem solved. No structural damage, as I skated today without issue. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Take a picture and complain to bauer!! Tell them that it is absolutely unnacceptable for that to happen to 800 dollar skates. Tell them you will send your pair back once they send you a new one so that your not out of a pair of skates. I know several people who have had issues with bauer products and they are usually pretty good with compensating. It also depends how long you have had the skates and how severe the issue is but it is worth a shot.

Or take 5 minutes like he did, and solve the problem for good.

Hammering the tangs can weaken them, so just keep an eye on the rivet in case it loosens. If it loosens, just have it replaced. BTW, I've always had the steel rivet under the base of the big toe replaced by a copper rivet because copper rivets protrude less, if that's the rivet to which you're referring.

Skated a few times on them since the "beating." They seem fine. I will monitor it though. Thanks ALL! If you turn over your left skate, it's the third rivet from the copper one (inclusive)...
