Product Predictions

Recommended Posts

New product is starting to come out for this season, so i think it'd be fun to pick your projected "Best" and "worst" for the upcoming year.

"BEST"

Stick - Louisville XN10, Dark Horse - Hespeler Alpha Nemesis

Gloves - Sher-Wood Eclipse (no, im not joking, seriously check them out)

Skates - Graf G series, (Lightweight, comfortable, and T'bladed) Dark Horse - Vector 6.0 (fantastic price pointed skate, for the low level hockey player)

Protective - Easton Ultra Lite (inexpensive, but comfortable)

Goalie - Louisville Xceed

"WORST"

Stick - Vector V120 (total waste of time, IMO)

Gloves - Easton Synergy (sizes run about 1" shorter than usual, not terribly uncomfortable, but not impressive either)

Skates - Vector BOA's (a little too gimmicky for me, being in retail)

Protective - Jofa (never did it for me, too many straps, too bulky)

I've seen a bunch of pros wearing those new funky looking SW gloves. If they did away with that S running down the backrolls, they'd look MUCH better.

The BOA skate is a great idea. I have a friend of mine in the waterski industry and they use them on their bindings.

Dunno why people are knocking it.

It's hard for parents to tie kids' skates...

but is it repairable? i thought the Speed laces were a great idea, but the pulleys broke left and right. the idea is nice, but im picturing broken strings, and someone tightening it to the point where it wont come undone. maybe im just a pessimist ;)

I actually thought the BOA was a great idea for kids.

My mom would have loved em. One of her reasons for hating hockey was broken nails from tying my skates when I was starting out.

Products that will shine

Premium stick - Stealth (even if it's a POS it will sell regardless)

Performance stick - Response Plus (C8 did well - C9 will do better with improved blade)

Value Stick - Hespeler Pyro (great price, great warranty)

Tapered - Mission L2 (value, looks and and will do better in a saturated market)

Blade - TPS PTC (better blade than its direct competition)

Gloves - Vapor XX (only knock is the palm, however, flash sells)

Skates - Supreme 8090 (Bauer dominates the skate market; those wary of XX's durability will jump on these)

Protective - TPS Bionic line (light and anatomical)

Value Protective - Mission M line (light pad and light on the wallet)

Pants - TPS 104 (as close as a girdle feel you'll get out of a pant)

Products that will bomb

Premium Stick - Si-Core Grip (people will shell out the additional $20 and get Stealth instead)

Performance stick - Vector 120 (new and improved, yet still crap)

Value Stick - Havoc (you can get a performance stick for the same price)

Tapered - Vapor XV (feels like crap on the rack, plus who wants a purple stick?)

Skate - SyNergy - (no way people will pay that much)

Blade - Si-Core Z-Carbon (PTC should take that market right underneath them)

Glove - SyNergy - (too stiff, too ugly)

Pant - CCM Pro Tacks - (CCM has been riding on the old Supra reputation too long)

Protective - Pro Tacks (CCM should stay out of protective - leave it to Jofa)

yah man. back in england i knew some friends who had a pair of shoes that had them on, they were the bomb!

one of the best: sherwood momentum (all they needs is a few more curves)

worst: hmm.... duno... maybe protective easton products that are made in vietam that breaks in a couple of games?

I would probably still go with an XN10, but if the retail Stealths are half as good as the GI ones they'll be pretty damn awesome. Granted the durability hasn't been tested as it hasn't got enough sessions in, but the feel's great and has better balance than any XN10 I've had.

"BEST"

Stick - Stealth, it's a no brainer, and like said before, it will sell, no problem.

Gloves - Sandes, again. No new technology, why do they need it.

Skates - Graf G series, (Lightweight, comfortable, and T'bladed) Protective - Nike, again also. Last years stuff rocked.

Goalie - Louisville Xceed

"WORST"

Stick - Vector V120, heavier then the Nike Quest 1, I weighed them, just sad

Gloves - Easton Synergy, nice looking, not fun to wear, I can't imagine the break in period.

Skates - Easton Synergy, going to be WAY to stiff.

Protective - Hespeler, the old stuff was wicked, this stuff just sucks.

My LHS just got the Response +'s. Seemed nice but at the same kinda cheap, I found paint globs and sticks not smooth on some of them. But the stick itself seemed quite solid. I will probably wind up getting one. The new blades are tanks. So stiff. Noticed a little torque on the shaft though, not good.

But the Havoc will do well because it's bright green! In a tournament this past weekend I saw quite a few younger kids with them and I didn't know what stick it was but then I saw one in the pro shop and saw it was the Havoc.

I'm looking forward to the Response + and the Stealth.
