Itech bringing back the Carbster?

Recommended Posts

In the USA/Sweden game it looked like Phil Kessel is wearing an old Mission Carbster, but when they got some close-up views of it it says Itech on it. Since Mission and Itech recently merged, I think this may mean the Carbster is making a comeback. Either that or they just put an Itech logo on an old Carbster...

I think it's just because Mission will concentrate on the equipment part of the merge and Itech on the head protection part. They probably aren't brigning it back, it's probably because of certain contracts stating that Itech will be shown on the head parts.

It probably just falls under the helmet licensing now that itech and mission are one. Since all last season the mission guys had no logos due to mission not paying helmet licensing.

I heard the same thing, they don't have the molds anymore. As was said, Itech is one of USA Hockey's licensed helmet companies. (Note how no USA players are wearing CCM/Reebok helmets.) The ITECH logo is just a sticker put on for that purpose.

How can they just loose the molds?

You would be surprised what you can loose after a good bender.

I am good friends with one of the Southeast reps for Mission-Itech Hockey, and the Carbster is not making a comeback. The helmet was so expesnive to make, that they couldn't sell it to make any profit at all. Mission lost their asses selling that helmet. Retail at $150 only gave them like a $25 margin or somethign to that effect, and it just didn't sell enough. They also ran into a lot of probelms with the Carbon Fiber being too brittle. One or two good falls to the ground/ice, or sometimes even just dropping the helmet on the locker room floor after a game could lead to cracks in the surface. And once it cracked, it doesn't offer the requisite protection. That is why they abandoned it, adn why most likely, carbon helmets won't exist until they can solve the brittle issues and bring hte price down.

I still wear them, and have one sititng in its box as a backup in case my current one breaks. By far the lightest and most comfortable helmet i've ever worn.

I am a Carbster-lover, too. They are incredibly comfy but they are far from being light. I weighed the Carbster and my Bauer 5000 on a kitchen scale and the Carbster is significantly heavier.

I have grown up in the same area that Kessel has and used to play on the same house league as him. He has been using the same carbster that he was using while playing for the madison capitols AAA hockey. Madisoncapitols.com

I like my carbster but the paint chipped every time I got swatted with a stick. only about 2/3 of the original paint is left on mine.

the bag is something that isn't promoted if you buy the helmet off of a place like hockeygiant. it's a pleasant surprise.

I still get comments on my helmet bag!

People here used to ask where I got the big Crown Royal bag.
