Best Woodies

Dan - the sticks you bought were not SOPs. They were PMPs. There's a difference.

PMP - player model pattern (retail)

SOP - special order pattern (custom)

I just bought some 7000 SOPs with that pattern but with some loft added to it...
Looks like what he got were custom patterns, so they would be SOPs, not PMPs.

Either way though, they are basically the same stick, right?

If it is a SOP, chances are the wood quality is better than what is on the retail stick.

The reason I specified was because it could've been a retail Bourque and he personally could've added the loft to it. Or it could've been a custom stick altogether. But regardless, I pointed out the differences for future reference.

someone asked about a sherwood modano-like pattern. the bouchard is a modo with a bigger mid and a toe. the spezza is basically an iginla with a modo lie (says its a 5.5, but its closer to a 5).

i think the sherwood 7000's are the best for feel and snap - but im a big guy and they dont last on ice (perfect for roller). the 9950 is no doubt stronger but i didnt think the strength held out much longer to be honest. im 6'4" 215 though. no wood stick really lasts all that long for me. for pure durablilty you might try the ccm v60 - its the v60 blade on a wood stick. probably less feel - but im sure it lasts a while.

i like the easton hybrids a lot if you like their patterns - they lasted just as long as anything else has for me. problem was, once the blade loses a little flex - forget it. dont forget that bauer is coming out with a hybrid woodie as well - you might like the hossa in a hybrid. i never really liked bauers regular wood sticks - just never felt right.

I'd say an Easton Z-carbon, very good performance, only setback is the durability. But hey, for $40 CAN you cant go wrong! :D

$40 Canadian? They're at least $80 around here.

Montreal is the way to go for durability. The TPS Xlites are nice though.

X-lites are nice but you have to be short. The damn things are only 58" long.

thats my biggest problem with most wood sticks - at 6'4" its hard to find one long enough. when they are long enough they lose flex quicker since im not cutting them down. im trying the leclair right now since its a 4.5 lie and i can cut it shorter.

I ordered a bunch of the Christian 3000 wood sticks because they're 67"

i loved christion growing up - but found them to not be so great as an adult. theyre made by harrow now - they are here in denver. havent tried any of the woodies since they reopened the christian line - are they any good?

The woods are improved, they fixed the fiber sock from last year and are headed in the right direction. They're using the old Christian production facility for the wood sticks just using a better process now. I like my custom blades, I'll let you know about the wood sticks when my shipment comes in. They mentioned the 14th, not sure if that is ship or delivery date. I'll assume it's a ship date.

i was thinking of getting some custom tapered blades from them. how would you compare them to the tps r2 woodie?

I'd say fairly similar and I like the R2 wood blade. I may go for the extra fiber on my next set to see if it makes them more durable but they are so light that I'd hate to make them heavier. The one currently in my R2xn10 has survived four games and is still close to original stiffness, something I could never say with any other wood blade I've used.

wow - that would be awesmoe to have it last that long. i dont think ive ever had a wood blade that was worth anything past a fifth game.
