A helmet to replace my 652/Ht2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I need a new helmet, but none of the helmets that fit me are around any more. Ccm ht2/652 and Itech hc95/100..

I have a long oval head, and everything on the market nowdays seem to be on the round or semi-oval side.. I also have a Rbk 5K(Fitlite 60?) that is ok without a visor, but with a visor, the sides get pulled out to far and the helmet wobbles from side to side.

Bauer 4500 is ok around the head, but feels boxy and very uncomfortable on the crown of my head.. Also way to shallow, and leaves the back of my head totally unprotected...

So... What are you former users of old CCM helmets using now? What fit like the older style CCM and Itech lids?

And, i have no LHS so i'm stuck to ordering online 😕

Thanks in advance!

With the visor, are you using the largest/thickest spacers?  Those should allow the helmet to retain its shape if installed correctly.  The Oakley one piece spacers are pretty large and contoured to really keep things from getting pulled/stretched.

As for helmets... have you tried a CCM Vector V08? (or V10 if you prefer).  They're more oval from what I've tried and worn.  I tried the Resistance and it was way too square for my head, also the Bauer IMS9 isn't bad but the Vector seems to be the most oval of those 3 and is still my preferred choice.  They don't sell the Vector at retail anymore but it is still made for the pros and available through ebay and some other channels, might be worth trying.

Iv'e tried to find a V08, V05 and V10, but they are really hard to find in Sweden and Europe.. Not many stores that keep old stock.

Regarding the visor spacers, my nose is so big 😂 that i have to mount the visor quite far out, which pulls the sides out even more 😞

I found it easier to go the hardware store and buy some small plastic washers. One you find out how many washers you need to fill the gap between helmet and visor glue the washers together. I like it better the factory spacers that come with the visor

I second the suggestion on the CCM V08/V10, if you can find one.  I picked one up from the Sharks used equipment sale and it fits my oval head quite well.  I wish I had bought 2.

Pro Stock Hockey may have them, don't know if they ship to Europe.

The Bauer RE-AKT 75 appears to be an exceptional value for the money, beating out more expensive competitors in testing for impact.

I also like the way it adjusts easily with the side controls. It goes from round (smallest setting) to oval (longer settings) and should be an easily adjustable lid for any shape head.

Mine is comfortable, and I've got an oval head so I had to adjust it bigger.

It may not help the OP outside north America, buy the V08 is still produced for pros, and is, at times, made available to retailers. You might check with your LHS to see if they order them. Black, at the very least, seems to be commonly available.

It's hit or miss everywhere! I got both CCM V helmets (V10 for playing...V08 for officiating) off of eBay.
