Shooting technique

Recommended Posts

I reccently switched from an Inno Kovalev pattern (drury clone, lots of loft/very open) which was more of an heel wedge, to a hespler pro4 (iggy clone i think) pattern. The pro 4 is basically completely closed, and i cant seem to get my slapshots off right anymore, and suggestions? Would rolling my wrists more in the follow through help? thanks

if the hespeler pattern is truly an iggy clone then the lie should be the same on both curves.......my only suggestion is to keep practicing and getting used to this new curve.

i had same problem

used a recchi retail, mid, slighly open, to a heel curve mid open, like RP

at first pucks flutter and shots are bad.. but when you get used to it, and shoot everything from the heel, its really nice and accurate, with faster release.

mainly you have to stickhandle with the heel of the blade more, and shoot more snap shots, or at least add more snapping to your wrist shots. the puck is going to flutter and go wild if you use the same technique you did with the old mid curves..

Yes. You need to turn your wrists over. My pattern is closed and I close them more when I get them. I naturally shoot high so the closed face lets me keep it down.

Yea, learn to roll your wrists when you pass and shoot. Also, what I think a closed face helps with, is saucer passes. Or at least for me, it is a whole lot easier to get off a nice crisp saucer pass with the puck not rolling and bouncing all over the place. I wont play with anything with very much loft at all. Also on my wrist shots, I take the puck behind my body a little more than most people do, just to get the maximum leverage for it. All my shots are basically like really fast saucer passes lol.

I'm having the same problem. I switched from a Shanny to a Hespeler Roberts. My shots are fluttering everywhere but after 4 games I can see a slow improvement.

It will take time but you'll adjust. I've been using the same advise everyone has posted just tinker with different methods.. you might have to sacrifice some good scoring chances until you find your touch.

My slapshot is better with a heel curve than a mid curve. You may have to change your impact point in order to improve your shot.

That's what I was thinking as well. Try to concentrate on hitting the blade in the middle rather than slightly closer to the heel shaft (as you do with a heel curve).

I also have to use a closed pattern but I also find that if your bottom hand is higher on the stick the puck will not raise as much off the ice.

Not necessarily. I don't think thats the case with me, might be with you, but I think its all about the technique and your follow through that determines where the puck goes, just like with any blade.

yeah i switched from a wood coffey curve sheerwood to a madano synergy- two completly differnet curves, lies, feel when i started i cant even do snapshots and my slapshot has decreases in speed but after a while i got my snapshots back but i still cant get my slapshots going - so i guess it takes a little getting use to but i have to say my snapshots are much faster and accurate

Yeah, same thing for me when I recently switched to a Modano curve after using mid-curved, more open-faced blades for years. The closed face and smaller curve is a huge help in keeping my passes down and saucer-y, but my slapshot needs some work. It's lower now, but I lost a lot of velocity on it.

I like the Modano curve, but I'm still getting used to the flatter lie.
