High End Skate Weights

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. Can someone give me a breakdown on the skate weights of the following skates:

Bauer Vapor XXX

Bauer Vapor XX

Bauer 8090

Easton Synergy

Easton Z-Air Comp ('04)

Pick between sizes 7.5-8.0 as a base size for comparison. These are 5 models that I am considering purchasing. Thanks

Does it really matter? There should be 100-200g of difference at most.

Today I went to Hockey Giant's Anaheim store, I was like a kid in a candy

store. I tried the Vapor XX which was supposed to be the lightest skates of

the 2003-2004 season. They're definitely lighter than my PureFly but when

I put them on, there wasn't such a difference. Ok, I haven't skated with

them, but I don't think that the small difference of weight between the two

skates would have affected my performances much.

As Eazy_b97 said, try them and see which one fits you best, see which one

fits your skating style best (if you like a lot of ankle freedom for example).

Don't buy them based on weight. Buy your skates based on what actually fits you. There is no way that all of those skates fit your foot properly. If a skate doesn't fit, weight is irrelevant.

Both the XX and the 8090 weigh about 825 grams for size 8's. The SyNergy and XXX are lighter, but I don't know the actual weights. Like everyone else has said, buy the skate that BEST fits your foot.

Guys he never said he was going to decide his next skates by weight. Hes just curious. If someone would buy a skate because its lightest, its his own stupidity.

Vapor xxx- ? my LHS told me but I dont remember. I am thinking its right around the 760 gram mark.

Vapor xx- 825 grams

Bauer 8090- 815 grams

Easton synergy- 760 grams

Easton z-air comp- ?

Hope this helps.

Edit-forgot to mention that this is for size 8.

I thought the XXX and Synergy were the same weight (XXX maybe a bit lighter without insoles, but because of the Shock Doctors the XXX were lighter.

He still never said he was going to buy them because of weight. Maybe he narrowed them down because them are the ones that fit him best. Im hope this is what the case is, but Im probably wrong.

Tyler is right, all the aforementioned skates fit my fee pretty good. I have narrowed it down to the XX's, the XXX's, 8090, and the synergy. I'm just really curious as to what the spread in weight among those four models is. Also, which models repel water the best (water doesn't absorb into the material which makes the skate heavier over the course of the game, and over the months).

Thanks for the input guys

this is the check list i use to determine my new skates -

1. cost

2. weight

3. look

4. what "everyone" else has

5. fit/comfort

(im not being serious)

what i tell everyone is to first try what youve been skating in and liked... if you liked your vapor tens try on vapor XXXs first if youre looking higher up... but the first priority is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS fit... just remember that... a skate that fits is a better than paying $500 to have your feet hurt after skating... i learned this lesson personally

EDIT: sorry just saw you ask which doesnt retain water the best. and ive heard very good things about the synergy skates on that issue.

Its not possible that two of the deepest, widest fitting skates on the market fit you, along with the vapor series which is one of the more narrow, shallow boots out there.

Maybe he does have the exact "average" feets. My guess is that skates and

shoes manufacturers collect anatomical data and make their lasts so as to

fit the most types of feet. So if your feet are in the exact average, you should

fit well "everywhere".

Personnaly, my right foot fits perfectly without baking in any 9.5D or EE

Mission ice or roller and any 8D or EE Bauer ice skates. In fact, I've never

had any problem with my right foot with K2 rollerblades, Salomon or

Rossignol ski boots, etc. I guess it fits in everything, just need the correct

size.

However my left foot is a little bit wider and has higher arch, it needs EE for

a good fit. I have problem all the time, with everything, even casual sneakers.

The Vapors are very narrow, even EE are narrow compared to "usual" EE

sizes.
