Girdle or Not To Girdle

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of pro issued Easton pants (from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL) they are a little big on me and I wanted to get new ones. I was thinking of waiting to get the new CCM stuff.

The question is, do you guys prefer a girdle with shell or just the pants?

I think girdle outperforms for weight, mobility and comfort. The pads are also easily removed and reinserted so you can tailor the balance between protection and mobility. I've been using the Tackla 4000 for 2 years with no complaints.

Changed to a girdle from tackla pants about a year ago and the difference is amazing - a girdle is so much lighter and gives you so much more manuverability. I don't know why they aren't more popular.

Used a girdle imtermittently for several years. Liked the mobility and the fit but was unhappy with the protection(old copperall girdle). Last year I switched to the Tackla 4000 at the suggestion of JR and haven't looked back. I still occasionally use pants just for fun but my first choice is girdle.

I guess I will be the lone nay-sayer. I used a girdle for a few games and found it to be like wearing underwear that was too tight. While it was very light weight, I found it would ride up if I bent or skated hard. I would then have to cross-check my self in the thighs and push the girdle back down. Maybe it was just me or the girdle I had (Franklin 9805?), but I will stick with pants.

Before I decided to go with a girdle, I asked a couple of teammates that wore them how they felt about the particular models that they were wearing. And then I did a little internet and LHS research and IMO felt that the Tackla 4000 was far superior to the other models I had seen. I have never tried any other girdle so I would never rip them but if you look at the posts in this thread it looks as if the Tackla users seem happiest. :D

I tried the Bauer Vapor 8 girdle out for a little while, nothing against it but I did switch back to pants. I just like the fit and feel of the pants better than a girdle.

My tackla girdle didn't hold up very well. If you play in a legue where protection is important I would avoid a girdle as well. Around here some coaches have been pushing girdles on kids and a lot of them are starting to go back to pants because they're tired of getting hurt by the lack of protection.

I use a girdle myself, I like the qay that it fits, not too tight but just enough that it feels like it is part of you. Very light and comfortable...

I wore pants when I started but have since used a Tackla girdle, a Tacks girdle and currently using the Vapor 8. I just feel that girdles feel more comfortable then pants do, except the tacks girdle that is a huge waste of money.

I tried on the Tacks Girdle and thought it was a pice of junk. I used the Vapor 8 briefly, but I prefer the Tackla 4000.

I think Roenick plays with a girdle, do you know if there is others NHLers that play with girdles?

Gaborik, Weinrich, Roenick, Chelios, Curtis Brown, Drury, Hull, McCarty, and Carter just off the top of my head.

There are many others.

all I could wear were tackla pants or girdles. everything else felt way too bulky. though I bought a pair of quest 1 pants on cloesout and they were pretty good.

I've always used girdles and probably won't switch to pants any time soon. I use the CCM Tacks and top model Franklin one for both roller and ice. I used to have an old Bauer girdle, but the tailbone protector was too short.

I totally agree, the only pants I can wear are Tackla Air 9000 pants. Never tried their girdles but i'm sure they're the best on the market from knowing Tackla's reputation and everyones positive comments.
