Glove Modification - finger length

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of Warrior pro stock hockey gloves in a 13" which is what I wear in most brands, usually the Vapor line.  These glove fit fine in the hand/palm area, but the fingers are shorter than a standard 13" - the player probably has sausage fingers lol.  I love the glove overall and want to keep them but to be sure the protection is what it needs to be, I'm thinking I'll need to somehow mod them to add length to the fingers including a longer pad on the fingers.  My fingers are smushed against the tip of the glove and stretching past the end of the pad which isn't ideal.  Has anyone ever added a longer pad or somehow extended the fingers on a glove?

I agree...that's not a proper fit, but honestly I don't think it's going to be cost effective to modify it. A shoe/luggage repair place might agree to do it, but I'm thinking it's going to be pricey compared to the value of the gloves. Can't hurt to ask, but there are so many quality pro-stock gloves available...maybe just sell them and grab another pair that fit.  I'll be interested to know what you find out should you decide to give it a shot.

I'd contact ITR to get a quote (they do great work) but I'm with JBear, I don't think it would be cost effective.

Who is ITR?

im not opposed to sending them out, they are truly that awesome, but also not opposed to DIY.  I’m not too shabby with a needle and thread 😂

The materials and and technique to do this just seem like a lot.  If it could be done, you’d have to essentially take apart all the fingers, and add and sew new padding and new materials. For the cost and effort, you’d could probably just buy another pair or two.

I once heard a shop employee talking about having the tip of his finger essentially explode when it poked through the gusset and he took a randomly placed hard slash. Like Methot getting slashed by Crosby a few years ago. Those two stories disabused me of the idea of wearing gloves where my fingers are too long for the gloves.

Just sell the current gloves and get ones that fit. I have had to do this with several pairs of gloves (I have long fingers) . I like to do mods and tinker as well, but this is a mod where the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

ITR is a glove repalming/repair guy, he does great work but it's a dying art which is actually quite difficult and labor intensive (which is why the premier gear specialist, Custom Pro Repair, up in Montreal is calling it quits after years of working for the best of the best).

For what you're describing my guess would be probably around $100 but that's just a guess.  I had a pair of loves re-palmed with fancy materials and new airknit gussets and it was about $180, I would not spend that if it were a pair of gloves that are easy to come by.
