Accord

Adding grip to my M2 shaft went horribly wrong....

Lol this has to be the funniest thing I've seen in awhile  Did you really expect it to be neat and tidey? :P

haha, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty or anything but this is just nasty. It got all over my gloves, it's ruining my palms, I definitely need to take it off.

I wonder what the results would have been if I used white tape...

Alot cleaner. Just a little curious why you chose black tape of all colors? Anyways its a trial and error process, I suppose  ;) . You shouldnt really have to rub the tape all over the shaft but in places where you hands are most such as puckhandling and shooting(aka Slaphots and wristers).

your palms will never look the same again

as for your grip, why didn't you just put on a candy cane tape job? works well and keeps your gloves looking so fresh and so clean clean

White tape doesn't look nearly as bad. After you take off the black you should try it with white.

Just don't drop that stick on a pile of feathers, sand or dust.

So if and when you get your stick cleaned off, these two topics should help. I've tried the Shoe Goo and it works well, doesn't come off easily, nor does it mark up the gloves. It's tricky to apply smoothly, but evidently so was the method you tried. :P

I'm just experimenting... although I probably should have experimented on one of my cheap 5030's first .

I went to Home Depot and bought some Goo Gone, it worked like a charm. all the black residue is gone and it even left a little bit of a tacky feel on the shaft, so now I don't have that super slick feeling of the stick like it was when I bought it which is great.

I also bought a Easton Tackifying Cloth that should be here sometime next week.

?????????????? Have you never seen this before, never looked at pro sticks???

Its a black sticky material, what the shit did you think was gonna happen??

For future reference to those that try it, a LIGHTER coating will work and it doesn't black up the shaft as much.

ALSO, instead of buying googone, WD40 works perfectly.

Still, this whole topic takes the cake.

I used to rub friction tape on my sticks all the time, just not quite as heavy as you went at it with your M-2. Let me know how the Easton cloth works, I thought about it but never did get around to trying one out.

did you use friction tape... thats what it looks like. if thats the case, you did use way too much. the prob with friction is that the chemicals will eat up a palm. use black or white cloth tape, and you won't have this problem. in the pro and college lockerooms the tape deal they have laying around will be covered in white and black cloth. give that a try!
