Lidstrom Curve

Recommended Posts

Just a question. Ive noticed that every database of curves (including the modsquad one) has the lidstrom curve listed as a mid curve. I would think its a huge heel curve myself. Just would like your thoughts on this.

Also, lidstrom is the curve ive been using for awile but now im getting a sakic stealth soon. Has anyone done the same switch? Ive heard that the curves are similar to each other so thats the only reason why im switching.

i kinda went in the opposite direction, going from a sakic curve to a lidstrom. i prefer the lidstrom over the sakic myself, but haven't tinkered with the sakic in a year or so

I agree, I was a fan of mid curves like the Easton Sakic before, but after trying heel curves like the Lidstrom & Drury, I will never go back to mid curve. Great for rising slap shots

using a lidstrom right now. its great on the forehand, really easy and sure - shots are pretty sick, though im pretty useless on the backhand - which is a loss, i go there all the time. its a shooters curve for sure, though. i actually shoot low well with it.

I agree, the Lidstrom isn't the greatest for backhands, you need to get the puck on a certain part of the back of the blade, but just requires some practice. Still, it's great for a powerful rising shot. As opus said, if you are used to it, you can shoot high or low with it.

I attempted the Lidstrom to Sakic switch last fall and never got used to the Sakic. Shots were more difficult to control and it just seemed unwieldy when stickhandling. I prefer heel curves to start with but I found it much easier to adapt to the few toe curves I've used and other mids than the Sakic. Try a blade before you drop $$$ on a Stealth.

no doubt. go to ebay and find blades cheaper, or get a hybrid blade/stick (if youre into easton). my problem is i like to try all the companies - thereisnt a cheap way to find out if you like a inno pattern, you know? i cant even touch it until i buy it online. always wanted to try a gonchar. at least easton has the cheaper options.

i agree with the sakic comments, i find it almost as hard to use the sakic backhand, and the shot is a little tougher to control. i wo-uld think thats the rocker toe verse the lidstroms squared off one. square just shoots better... i think. less dangle though.

If you see a Hespeler Weight pattern, it's the same. May be a little cheaper too.

i love the lidsrtom curve, and i havent even used it properly (im a junior) so i have to go with prongers instead, which are just as hard to find for jrs. I think im kind of weird because of this, but i actually find my backhand with a lidstrom-type blade better. I guess its just a personal preference

i think the backhand works great, its just the angle i have to turn my body to for it to be effective isnt easy. i can do it no problem if i walk it alone, and backhand passes are cake if im not under pressure - but if i got a guy all over me i have trouble just pulling it quick to the backhand and sliding it in. i score most of my backhands not by cutting across with a big forehand to backhand, but come in from the backhand side, fake to the forehand and pull it back without ever really going across, this is tough with the lidstrom when im being pressured. thats what i mean by tough backhand, otherwise - its fine.

chadd, thanks for weight idea - though ive never seena hespelar blade here in colorado....and i look everywhere. do they have a website to check their stuff out at? best place to pruchase online? peranis the best option for them?

That's where I got my old Patriot. You may be able to find them on closeout or on ebay as well. They've been tough to find for a while.

For people that use the Lidstrom regularly - Is the curve getting smaller? I used it for a while, but it seemed to start growing on my as the Gold Synergy Grips started coming out, but I saw a FF blade and it looked much more tame.

not that ive noticed, maybe it looks different with thinner profiles as time goes on? im pretty sure its been unchanged - if it has, it was a minute change.

I have done a similar switch- I went from a Bauer Pronger Blade, to an Easton Sakic blade. The curve feels the same, the accuracy and velocity feels the same, but the toe and the lie need some getting used to.

i switched from a lidstrom to a sakic. it worked pretty good for me. the puck went higher with to lidstrom but with the sakic it still went high, just not as much as the lidstrom. the sakic is good to shelf the puck with and for saucers. if you are a defensemen like me, i would not recomend either of these blades if you want to keep the puck down, if you like to let it rip top self from the blueline than these blade are for you.
