Moore files lawsuit

Recommended Posts

I thought I read that he wasn't going to sue unless he wasn't able to come back. I'm not sure why he would sue Brad May, I don't remember his involvement in it. Its actually a nice gesture on his behalf for not suing the league. With all the crap going on with the CBA, a lawsuit against them is the last thing they need.

Does everyone remember that sign you saw the first time you stepped on the ice at the youngest level you ever played?

"Skate at your own risk"

Sure, sue Bert and have him settle with you out of court or something. But to sue everyone under the sun is just bullshit.

I do, but, I will keep my mouth closed on this one. I won $1000 on it!

Pretty much the nature of law suits. Name everyone with any possibility of involvement and let the courts decide who the responsible parties are.

This will probably never see the courts, Bert will settle with him outside of court. And if he ever plays any level of professional hockey again I'm sure people named in this lawsuit will have grounds to counter-sue.

He didn't include Granato, the Avs or the NHL as he very well could have done.

To include Granato and the Avs might imply some self-responsibility. I am surprised that the NHL and the on-ice officiating crew wasn't named.

Blaming Granato for being dumb enough to put him on the ice or not sending out a goon to protect him doesn't place any liability on him. Good point on the refs though.

What are you talking about Chadd.

Granato and Nikko on the ice with him.

I know Moore's been through a lot and has maybe lost a few pennies but can't he just give it a rest. Bertuzzi regretted his actions and showed his sympathy. Why can't the come to a mutual agreement and get over the incident?

Because it could potentially be alot more than "a few pennies".

Come on Ponty, it's been a slow night :)

If there was a basic outline of what is legal and what would be illegal (I'm talking federally not within the game) then I wouldn't be opposed to it, but because sometimes it goes the way of courts when others it doesn't.

The thing is though, sue for what you'd make in 2-3 seasons, not for the 20mil or so he's going to want. I still think it comes down to a hockey thing though, and I think it's BS that the cops were even brought into it.

Well, if he thinks that he could have made 20 mi playing hockey then he has a right to it. Also, how often to people get exactly what they ask for in lawsuits when they win?

Yeah, well he'd never make 20mil, unless he played about 17 years. But, he'll probably get about 5mil from Bert out of court.

I'm glad he did it. A lesson needs to be taught to these players that they can't do whatever they want on the ice. I hope he does well. He seems like a great guy.

I can't believe he filed for a law suit. I believe that Bert knew he did somthing wrong and was really sorry for it. Moore really holds a grudge against people.

Now I leave you with a quote from Waynes World: Why if a man kills another in battle it's heroic, yet if he kills a man in the heat of passion, it's called murder?

Think about it.

"Old School hockey" as we were taught it, was simple...someone goes after you, you stand up for yourself...man to man...that was the philosophy taught to us by our parents....on or off the ice. What we have seen for years now is not the "mano a mano" philosphy, but a culture of vendetta, with hired goons, and "hit men" cluttering the hockey landscape...for so long now it's become accepted as "part of the game" and many get righteous when some one opposes this.

This type of brutality is so far removed from that original philosphy that led to fisticuffs. The fighting based on one guy being wronged by another and them each settling their immediate differences one one one. The old school had a type of "schoolyard" nobility to it, and engendered some grudging admiration for an opponent..no matter what size, who would take no sh@t from another player.

The sort of incident we have seen here is one hundred and eighty degrees from this philosophy..this was a cowardly attack from behind from someone not directly involved with the incident....this is no more than "gang thuggery", and so far from noble it makes me puke. Then on top of this there are players and fans who celebrate Bertuzzi's willingness to get Naslund's back..like he was doing something courageous......How inverted have the old values become?

That anyone should take exception to Moore's current actions..reflects very poorly on their understanding of values like courage and nobility...the primary reasons we teach sports to our kids as life lessons....They are the real prizes we can give our kids from playing a sport the way it was intended ..winning and money are the illusions...and have all but driven those old values away.

Why do your think all the old school players are so disgusted with what has just happened to the NHL?

Nice post.

Bert / Moore was a big part of what is wrong with hockey as a whole.

Doing the right thing and honor are "extras." Boy are we in trouble as a society.
