Pitch problems

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, it's been a while...

Anyway, I've been wearing Mission S300s since they came out this summer, great skates, apart from some cosmetic issues. Anyway, a couple of monthss ago the right blade started clicking and came loose last week. I tightened the bolts with the Pitch key but they still loosen and affect the pitch everytime I use them. Anyone else have this problem? Should I try Loctite?

On another note, some of you guys might have noticed I havn't been posting a lot recently, or visiting, as a matter of fact. My season's winding down and even though I still got 1 year of HS hockey left, I'm seriously considering to stop playing competitively to concentrate on tennis (I've also been posting at the tennis-warehouse.com forum a lot more). Guys like JR, Chadd, Ponty et al have helped me a lot ever since I first registered at CB, and I'm forever grateful for having the chance to chat with the great people here. This is THE best hockey board on the net and nothing can change that. But that being said, I'll still be dropping by once in a while to see where hockey's at technologically wise.

Cheers, thanks and good luck.

I see the cosmetic problems on the 300s all of the time. It's partly due to the fact the silver material bulges out rather than being flush or recessed like the 400 or 500. I would put loctite on the bolt, should resolve the problem. Assuming of course the bolt isn't rotating in the hole.

Front bolt or rear bolt?

Try using lock washers. They look like a little sun. You'd have to mod the one for the rear one by cutting out one of the ends so it could go around the notch for the pitch adjustment.

If worst comes to worst PM me and I'll send you a pair.

I hate to bring up such an old topic, but, when I did a search, this was as close as I could come to my issue.

The blades on my pitch holders are loose, but I am unable to tighten the bolts any more.

They are as tight as can get, but I can still wiggle the blade itself with my hand. Any suggestions?

JR suggested lock washers and darkstar recommended loctite... JR said you have to modify the rear bolt so I'd try the loctite first on the rear bolt before you get carried away.

take the bolt, go down to the local hardware store.. tell them you need lock washers. If your hardware store has it, pick up loctite blue, not red. If not go down to your automotive parts store and get it. You put the blue loctite on the threads and put the lock washer in place and tighten everything down. See if that helps.

P.S- Any lock washer that is the right size will work but if they have Stainless steel 18-8 lock washers I recommend those they won't rust as easily.

He said that the bolts are tight. So loc-tite will not help. The blade wiggles when the bolts are tight. Sounds like something very different than your fix, that has been stated twice on this thread now.

Right, while I appreciate the advise, I don't know that it applies to what's going on with my skates.

hockeydoc,

I stated that both JR and DarkStar already mentioned it. I just gave some more detailed descriptions, Like using blue Loctite, Because good luck with Red Loctite considering it's pretty much permanent unless you want to heat the crap out of your holders to get the bolt out..

sorry for inconveniencing you.

KB025,

I misread your post the first time (damn tired)

Did you inspect the hardware to make sure that it's not damaged?

Well, the bolts look OK from a cursory inspection. But, I guess I should remove them, check the threads and re-install.

This is an old thread, but it seems to address my issue, so I'm dredging it up. The front bolt on my left skate can't be tightened enough to keep the blade from shifting. It appears the hole in the blade is just enough larger than the female bolt to allow the blade to shift even when it is very, very tight.

Anyone have a solution for me?

Yeah, I had another look at it tonight. I was thinking some kind of shim, but tape hadn't occurred to me. The outside diameter of the female bolt matches almost exactly with the inside diameter of a 3/8(?) washer. I'm going to try and get some metal shim stock, but if I can't find something I'll try tape.
