Differences in Pro Curves and Retail Curves?

Recommended Posts

After reading several posts, I am confused as to why there is pro and retail versions of some curves. For example, the Forsberg curve for Easton now is almost if not exactly like the old Modano it is replacing. But Forsberg’s Pro Curve (the curve he actually uses) is more towards a Sakic (easton retail) curve. Why do Easton and other manufactures do this? And am I correct in my assumptions about the retail and pro Forsberg curves?

Name recognition. That and pro curves--for the most part--aren't marketable to the majority of the public.

Retail curves have nothing to do with what the pro themselves use. They merely slap names on the blades so rubes will buy it because they want to be "Like Mike" (Modano).

The Forsberg Retail is EXACTLY like last year's Modano retail. Why? Because Modano left (signed with Reebok) so they signed Petey Forsgirl and named the blade after him.

Why don't they don't they have retail=pro? Lots of reasons. For instance, many pro's change patterns frequently. Also, some of the pro curves are freaky - "normal" folk won't like some of the pro curves. That's just to name a few.

Also, check out: http://www.eastonhockey.com/teamEaston_msg...sp?topicID=8880 where pretty much the same question was asked

Most of what u said makes sense; except Petey Forsgirl????? What is that, Modano is one of the biggest pretty boys in the league.

I'm not a fan because of all the dives he takes.

It is Unfortunate that diving has worked its way into hockey. Diving belongs in soccer. It has no place in hockey. And being a huge fan of Peter, I hate that about him!

I am a big Avs fan but love Divealanche.com. That guy is creative!

If you want to see worse check out Peter’s UGLY modeling pics from Sweden.

Needless to say, when ever he wants to, he could still move around better than any other player in the league. Even in games when he is a marked man, he still comes away with 2-3 points.

Man he hardly looks like himself in that pic.

fwiw, sakic does use his own pattern. i think all the original easton patterns were from the actual players. i have a drury tfex from the avs locker room a year before they made synergies - its identical to the drury now. he would actually bend a toe onto those blades tho - probably making them illegal. if you see an old picture of lidstom playing with a christian - looks just like the lidstrom curve. ironically, it looks like he uses a sakic now. the players do change a lot, and most of them dont use them now - but i believe the original bunch came from the actual patterns. if you ever saw a modano pro stock - its a modano retail with a square toe. i think the shanny is identical to the wood blade he still uses.

i know in the past, and mostly in the present, the blade had no relation to the player - i believe this is the exception.
