I don't believe the Jofa elbow pad thing. Warrior37 how would elbow pads casue concusions? As for reebok their players also include amonte, modano, pronger, bergeron, datsyuk, joseph, luongo and many more

Because when your face or helmet hits a hard object, it's going to absorb the blow.

And as far as their lineup goes, those guys got PAID...big-time..

what's the deal with helmets, are they custom also?

my friend plays shinny with a guy in the OHL, and he has to wear an 8k, and he says it's the most uncomfortable helmet he's ever worn, so i can see that affecting performance

It's amazing what a large bankroll will do for a company.

My son's team all wear the 8000, and although they have complained about the appearance (they carry the nickname "Robocops" due to the Pewter color and shape of the helmet) nobody I know complains that they find the helmets particularily uncomfortable...actually they seem to like the feel with the extra gel inserts into the hard foam areas, but find them a little bulkier.

That difference might have more to do with the level of talent in the AHL this year due to the lockout, the wider lines, the focus on reducing "obstruction", and the tag up offsides, the extra room in the offensive zone, the smaller goal pads (down from 12" to 10") than any sticks might make.

I was concerned about the AHL/ECHL stick deal also untill I read recently that goal scoring in th AHL is up 15% this year.

Well, the AHL's best players can't go up to the NHL...

are you sure? i used to work with pro linesman and my brothers old coach was a goal judge, they both told me the same thing.  All nhl players have to wear the jofa elbows because they were tested and showed not to cause concussions

They did a study about concussions and found that the hard-capped elbow pads were pretty much a weapon. Jofa was the only company to retrofit theirs to NHL spec. However, donut-style soft elbow pads and a select few others (eg. Bauer Vapor 6/8000) passed the test as well.

hey JR, about the elbow pad thing....does that make it basically illegal for anyone to use the hard-capped? and i mean all hockey, not just semi pro or pro...bevcuase my elbow pads are a pair of those jofa hard-caps, and i love them to death...worn em since i started playing....

USA Hockey and Hockey Canada have no rule against hard elbow caps.

ok good because i would hate to have to give em up...thanks chadd

I hope that they do eventually change to require caps to improve safety. I think most manufacturers are headed in that direction anyway.
