The line 'Tacks' is named after the shoemaker that helped design CCMs first skates.

EDIT: and that was a long time ago.

Great info to know. No marketing ploy, just a good old-fashioned tribute. Safe to say there was no shoemakers in the last few years named "Vector" or "Externo". :D

i have a pair of tacks from the late 70's-early 80's. They're the same boot as in that catalogue, only they have black plastic holders. I gotta dig them up and post a pic.

Tacks go waaaaay back.

If you go the ccm's website, I think they have a running counter keeping track of how many years, days, and seconds the company or the name has existed.

Tacks are at least 100 yrs old if I"m not mistaken.

Now I wish I had not thrown out my old retail catalogs from Ocean, Kemps, GreatSkate and the like.

Wasn't CCM strictly a bicycle manufacturer back in the day. I seem to remember having a few CCM bikes when I was a kid.

The 106 + years counting on ther website is for the Brand/Company...not Tacks as a product. It flashes by as the site loads...

I have a pair of original Bobby Orr 1970 game model skates, they're still brand new in the box. I've had these skates for over 10 years now and have been looking for a Bobby Orr autograph signing where I can send one of the skates out to get signed.

Old school skates are awesome.

I'd love to try out an old-school pair of skates. Perhaps some middle-of-no-where town still has some at their arena for public skate rentals!

You can always find a cheap pair on eBay. Also, a lot of PlayItAgain stores have some old school skates.

i'm still digging for those old ccm's i have, i think my uncle may have taken them back. He got them when he was a teenager. I wore them for like 2 yrs before i got my new tacks. Surprisingly comfortable, but no padding whatsoever. The black holders were SICK though. I'll post pics as soon as i find them

Almost positive, can't confirm but CCM bicycles are made through another company through a licensing agreement.

Much like their line of children's clothing sold at Real Canadian Superstores (part of the loblaws umbrella)
