Has This Ever Happened to Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Well, I was flexing my tapered Igor Korolev Response shaft and the blade burst through the bottom of the shaft and kinda destroyed the taper. The blade fit perfectly into the shaft and the stick has been used on and off since the start of last year. Before this happened, I noticed no structural damage on the shaft, nor any sign of weakness. It just happened out of no where. It really bugs me too because I was going to sell the shaft to a friend. Anyways, has anyone had a similar experience.

What kind of blade?

I heard Innos did that due to the stiffness of the blade.

Really? I thought it was caused by using Inno blades in other brands' shafts? Also it happens all the time (i.e. once per week) with the cheapest comp shafts (yzerman, ultra carbon etc).

It was a Composite Synthesis blade.

i had a blade split open the end of my easton a/g shaft. never thought i would kill an aluminum shaft, but i did; was pretty old though. took a shot and the blade just went flying. i was using an inno blade at the time too. the blade didn't crack/break at all. i'm still using the blade without any problems.

exact same story. the blade jsut pushed right through the front bottom corner of the shaft on a slapshot in the garage. the flying blade was a surprise and looked pretty cool :D but mine wasnt an inno blade, easton wood.

i think inno blades had nothing to do with it in my case. my a/g was pretty old, i wasn't too suprised it died. i've been using inno's for a long time in my other easton composite shafts and have never had a problem with breakage.

i think it's just the stiffness of the inno blades because 3 of my z-bubbles broke right where the shaft bubbles

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Z-bubble break anywhere else unless it was slashed.

i've actually had one break in the middle of the shatf one a slap shot, a peice in each hand.

I've had a few of those flare outs. First happened back in the day with some of my Alu's, but more recently with a 100 flex bubble and a red lite. I don't tend to break shafts that often, i'm usually breaking the blades first.

The flare out happen on the back side of the shaft on a shot, and the blade kind spoons up at a right angle as the crack widens during the shot. I would assume it must be some sort of fault caused by heating or blade insertion. Speaking for myslef i know htat i never use an open flame, never apply heat to close and heat for too long to burn the shaft. Furthermore i usually melt the glue a little to reduce resistance when inserting the blade.

... Maybe some of us have a talent for this particular breakage!

I have had 1 z-buble break by the blade exploding out of the shaft taking out a house light  , and 1 break on a slapshot right were the taper ends.

I was using an old easton blade in the street hockey one and a z-carbon with it biusting on the slapshot.

I cant stand thpse shafts you take a shot and it cracks all the way up the shaft and brakes in 4.

If you dont flex sticks unless your shooting on the ice you wont take out house lights. Sticks are not supposed to be held in a flex for long periods of time or flexed extremely hard for a long period of time (IE. on the living room floor). I cant count the number of times I've seen retarted kids go "hey look how much this flexes" and then SNAAAAAP right on the locker room floor. Another thing is kids dont flex them standing like they would be when they shoot, alot of kids bend them real low to the ice and pull them upwards, thats no good either.

My Z bubble broke right before the taper gets wide to accept the standard blade.

I didn't flex my stick at all rather then when i shoot. I don't really like buying new sticks every month because i want to see if it can bend to the ground.
