New gloves...

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody.

I'm new to the board, but have been reading for a while. You guys really know what you're talking about.

Anyway, I've been in the market for some good gloves for around $100-150 US.

My original choice were Eagle x80s, but at a rink in Deleware, where my brother had a tournament, i found some Muskoka XT 950s. In a shop up the street from the hotel we stayed at, I tried on some Sande MaxPros. I found all three of these gloves to be very comfortable and very protective, but I'm having touble deciding which ones, and where I can get them for the best price.

Any and all help is appreciated.

welcome to the board :D

if you're not strapped for cash, i say support your local businesses, they need all the help they can get to stay competitive with the online stores.

if all three of hte gloves are the exact same in terms of comfort and protection, what about mobility? maybe you should just choose the one that's the cheapest or the one that looks the best ;)

Thanks asdfa.

the places I found them listed them in the upwards parts of $100 (175-180)

and being down there for just two days, i didn't bring much money with me, and

my LHS doesn't stock any of the gloves, so i'm in between a rock and a hard place right now.

I would get the Sande MaxPros out of those three. The nylon, air kint gussets, sheepskin palms, and double TriggerFinger make it much better than the other two models IMO. I have two pairs of Sandes, and if I had the money right now I would buy a pair of MaxPros.

I'll second Muskoka.

I had a defective first pair, but the second pair has been going strong with zero signs of palm wear for about a year of 2x/week play. Kind of freaky, actually.

I love Muskokas, I've had a couple pairs. Great mobility and protection.

EDIT: I have a pair for sale in the Sell section of MSH. senior 950 XTs...

i have muskoka zr900's actually, the palm is bulletproof, really impressed. i would prefer a little more protection (they only have HD foams). only things i would like to change on them besides protection would be making the fingers less roomy and shortening the cuff. great gloves (especially since i got mine for $30 CAN) nonetheless

Free. This pair is my warranty pair b/c the first pair went to shit after about 10 uses. Holes all over the palm. Haven't had anything like that happen wit hthe second pair. Also, this pair has a removable top of hand pad which the first pair didn't have.

I like that pad, it was in my 970s as well. They're nice gloves, but a bit overpriced.

When I was looking at the Eagles, I was a bit unsure with the single fingers.

I felt I could move my fingers more easily in the Muskokas or the Sandes and have a better grip on a stick.

i personally like those "unknown" brands like muskoka, oakley, sande, even eagle is kinda unknown here.

some mins ago i saw flarrow for the first time, their gloves look pretty good too.

are there any other smaller brands with good stuff ?

I saw Flarrows gloves and sticks last summer because a rep came into the shop. I have to say that thier gloves and thier OPS are very nice.

The mobility is just as good as split fingers IMO. Especially after you've worn them once or twice. If you can find some of the 2005 models they're even better, they have an extra segment on the forefinger (part between your thumb and the top of your hand) that allows a really great range of motion when closing the hand.

My only problems with the Sandes and Muskos (to a lesser extent) is that they weren't quite as durable and there were several stitching and material issues with the Sandes that I tried. Muskos are much better quality IMO, but eagles are still above them.

If you're open to new ideas, Oakley Mace gloves are really cheap right now on hockeymonkey. Its a steal, and the oakley mace gloves are IMO the most comfortable gloves out there.

You can order TriggerFinger palms to put on some other gloves. I'm not sure what other gloves they will fit on but I am pretty sure they would fit on the X80s.

I don't know. I just asked Gary about X70s earlier for tyler33, and he said they'd fit on X70s so they'd fit on X80s. X80s are the same as X70s except more protective or soemthing like that, right? I'll have to ask him about Muskokas or just have him look at this thread...

Either way though, I still think the MaxPros are a superior glove to the others because of the nylon, air knit gussets, and sheepskin double TriggerFinger palms. The others you would have to custom order those and it would cost a lot more money.
